are getting unemployment benefits considered part of being a "public charge"? can a sponsor be potentially held accountable for paying those back to the government if the immigrant they sponsored is collecting unemployment before that person has fulfilled the requirements to end the I-864 contract(ie worked 40 quarters, become a US citizen, etc...?) I'm asking because i don't know and also it seems like it would affect a decision to apply for unemployment compensation even if you would otherwise qualify.

No, as the unemployment stuff is paid by the employer and the employee, when the employee is working. No Public Charge Stuff, at all.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Interesting side note: Even though officially the DOL discourages the payment of UI to undocumented workers working in covered employment, many undocumented workers have successfully sued for and been granted UI and DI, as a benefit to which they are entitled, only because they either paid for it through a payroll deduction, or their employer paid for it on their behalf. Same applies to workman's compensation.

How abut Emergency Unemployment. I got that starting in March when my Regular unemployment ran out. So emergency or Temporary is straight from the government. So how about that?

Yer a USCitizen, so I think yer concern is over the I-864 that you'll be filing as the primary sponser ..

That's how, about that.

Well silly I know that. I was just using my situation as an example. I mean seems after you use up your "pot" of money for unemployment and now have to tap into the government funded (well I guess its all government huh). Okay never mind.

And excuse me Mister are you getting smart with me.no0pb.gif

In all cases, you must have lost your job through no fault of your own (you didn't quit and you weren't fired for cause)

I'm not sure that this is the case. I worked a job in DC where we had someone on unemployment under weird circumstances and I believe that in DC you can get unemployment even if you were fired for cause as long as the cause did not amount to gross misconduct. I don't know about any of the states, though.

That's correct.

Our journey together on this earth has come to an end.

I will see you one day again, my love.
