In follow-up to my unfortunate situation trying to get our marriage registered in India, my husband has attempted to get a formal written request from the marriage registrar's office with the information the official claims he needs to proceed with the registration. Of course, he hasn't been in his office for the past 2 weeks and nobody seems to know when he has plans of returning. (Apparently he is on some important business in another city  )

Regardless, it's now going on 4 months and we have gotten vague answers from USCIS and NVC on how to proceed.

They are saying I have enough evidence to proceed with the CR-1 but I can expect a possible RFE.

Here is the link to my former topic http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/383768-ridiculous-obstacles-stopping-the-registration-of-our-marriagehow-do-we-proceed/page__p__5622803__fromsearch__1#entry5622803

My problem is I have only 1 copy of all official documents. I can't imagine it will be an issue with the court documents and conversion certificate but I am very worried about the marriage certificate. We only have 1 copy, the original, and we don't plan on submitting that because it probably won't come back to us and we will need it in the continuing fight to get our marriage registered.

Of course, being without an officially registered marriage, I am unable to legally change my name in the U.S. Because of this, my employer does not recognize my husband as my spouse and I cannot make him a beneficiary on my benefits package. I can't do much. It's been a horrible nightmare. I don't even know what to call him sometimes. He's like my half-husband because most do not recognize us as married. If I don't get this situation resolved soon I will also miss out on filing my taxes as married. :bonk:

:ot2:

Will a scanned copy be enough? There is no way for us to get another copy without me physically being in India which at this time is not an option. Is there anyway to make the copies more official? (i.e. notarization?)

So far we have assembled this packet of evidence:

- Scanned copy of temple marriage certificate

- Copy of Hindu conversion certificate

- Certificated translation of conversion certificate

- Pictures of marriage ceremony

- Affidavits from friends and family members who were witnesses to our marriage

- Scanned copy of official court statement ordering that our marriage be registered

- Letter detailing our situation

It's an awfully large amount of money to spend on something that could be potentially rejected. So I want to know my chances.....please any feedback? We just want this nightmare to end and apply for our CR-1 petition submitted.

I am the petitioner.

I'm assuming you're putting the I-130 together at this time. You are only required to send copies at this stage. You'll need to send originals once you reach the NVC. Time frames vary from case to case on how long that will take to reach the NVC. I can't say for sure if it would be acceptable at NVC stage to send notarized copies, someone else can answer that with more certainty hopefully. Best of luck
