Double-murder suspect tries to turn himself in, but Detroit cops are a no-show ... too busy handling ‘high priority runs’

Detroit police force in midst of severe cutbacks. Cops dealt 10 percent pay cut and restricted to 12-hour work shift.

A double-murder suspect had to turn himself in - not once - but twice before cops arrested him.

The 36-year-old man showed up at a Detroit fire station two hours after he allegedly shot four people at a party early Saturday, killing two and injuring two others, police said.

The unidentified suspect told officials that he was connected to the shootings and fire fighters immediately called the Detroit Police Department.

But no officers showed up.

"Due to area patrol units being busy handling high priority runs, no units were dispatched to the location," police explained in a statement.

The suspect eventually left the fire station and went to a nearby police station where he was detained.

Police Chief Ralph Godbee said that department will launch an investigation into why a patrol car never showed up at the fire station.

The department will look into what police units were doing when the suspect tried to turn himself in and whether they were dealing with other aspects of the shooting, police spokeswoman Sgt. Eren Stephens told the AP.

The suspect is accused of fatally shooting two men, ages 23 and 27, according to local television station WXYZ-TV. He allegedly injured two other men, ages 34 and 19, who are currently in serious condition.

The Detroit police force has undergone severe cutbacks as part of Mayor Dave Bing's efforts to reduce the city's budget deficit.

The city recently mandated a 10 percent pay cut and 12-hour work days for cops.

See the pattern?

I see a pattern that median household incomes are higher in blue states, which means nothing about quality of life. Cost of living is also much higher which means it makes it much harder on the poor. Typical liberal response to whip out a meaningless statistic and watch the uniformed jump at it like Bill Clinton on a low self esteem little fat girl.
