My wife and I were married July 30, 2011, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

My wife has worked in UAE for 10 years, since she was 14 years old (We are both now 24 years). She only returns to Ethiopia for visits and waiting for then changing of company visas.

It is both economically and security impossible for her to wait in Ethiopia. Her family is too poor, and the country too unstable. So we have decided to try to change consulates, from Addis Ababa to Abu Dhabi.

So far, we have finished and approved the I-130 and online payment bills and Affidavit of Support Packet.

We only need to create the IV Packet and have her send it to me.

But we have an NVC Case Number for Addis Ababa, we need Abu Dhabi.

When called NVC yesterday, they said the only thing needed to do for changing it was to send email requesting change and put inside email her UAE address.

At this stage, is all I need to do to change consulates just write email asking for change and showing her UAE address? Or are there forms I need to attach with email? Or do I need to contact Addis Ababa Embassy or Abu Dhabi Embassy, or only the NVC?

How to change different contry consulates before sending IV packet?

I was directed to use I-824 to change embassy to Nairobi (kicking myself for that decision) :bonk: and it cost me more than the k1 visa application. I have read several stories here were all they did was email the request so it may depend on the embassy . Good luck !

By the way, it takes 2-3 months to change embassy but you may want to call them and confirm. Again, it may be different for each embassy.

I am going through the IR-1/CR-1 process. Also, we only have a NVC Case Number, no Interview Date, and only sent AOS Packet.

The only difference is that the address will be differnt when we send our IV Packet.

Would the Ethiopian embassy even have our case at this time, or only the NVC knows about us?

Ethiopia won't get your case until it is done at NVC. Since you are not done, then your case is still at NVC. Follow the instructions they gave you.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

If I not sent IV Packet yet, how much delay will this cause?

I sent an email inquiry to Abu Dhabi Visa Immigration Unit to confirm the instructions, because sometimes operators wrong. Do you think this will cause problems at this stage, or nothing to worry about? How much delay will this cause?
