Hello VJ members,

Firstly, I would like to say how appalled I am to see the Vermont processing times, compared to the California dept, and feel for all you guys who are still waiting to be approved. I'm aware they 'switch' places from year to year, but this is no consolation for those still waiting. I wish you all the best of luck.

Anyway I digress.

Myself and fiance have been approved (made better that she was actually here still!), and I've just received the letter from the US Embassy (UK). I'm aware that we have to state a wedding date, but here is our issue (if indeed, it is one) -- As my fiance is Catholic, and we both want a summer wedding, our 'real' wedding will take place 15th June, 2013. However we plan to get married at the Justice of Peace when I enter the country (with two witnesses), as we can't wait until June as the K1 Visa would have expired by then. Also we don't want to be apart, and thought it a good idea to be married legally, so I can start aos, and work authorization. We thought we might as well get all of it done, before our wedding with families etc.

So here's my question - when the embassy ask for a wedding date, shall I explain what I've just explained here? Or will this look a little suspect? We have evidence for the wedding, but I'm not if they'll need dates on the evidence?

Just a little confused.

Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

Thank you in advance,

Cal

Explain it as you did here- it is very common to have a legal and a ceremonial wedding for K1 cases, as it is so difficult to plan a big wedding when not knowing when one gets the visa.

Congrats with your approval (F)

Your explanation is good enough, as there are many who plan to do the same. I think they want to know that it is your intention to marry within the stipulated time period following POE.

Just tell them about the legal wedding you will have when you get here, that is all they need/want to know. You don't need to say anything about the ceremonial wedding you will have later, they just want to see you will fulfill the obligations of being married within 90 days.
