When I got here in CA, I received a 5-year DL by showing to the DMV my passport and my EAD, and it won't expire until 2015. It didn't make much sense to me that they would not tie it to the validity of my papers, but who am I to challenge the DMV? Did you receive a license valid for a shorter period of time?

So since the permanent residence expired 10/31/2012, they made the DL expire 10 days before that. We thought that by sending in the extension, we would get the DL extended for a year as well. Not so...

I had that issue also in AZ. What I found out was this......

My 2 year conditional GC expired 09/20/2012, I did not file my ROC till the 19th of Sept (Yes, i'm a male and leave things to the last minute lol), anyway, overnight ed it to them and went down 4 days after my license expired (The same day as my GC). They first told me that I have to wait till I get my new GC after telling them that this could take 6+ months they said tough, that is their rules. So, I went back to my shop and called the main office in Phoenix, they advised me that because I filed in time I can call the supervisor at the MDV in my town and ask them to do a check with my A# to see that I am still in status....after telling the Sup this they told me to come down and they will see what they can do. Went down there and they just signed the form (didn't do a check on me) and got my DL renewed for another year........

If the poll of VJ members at CSC (10) vs. VSC (20) reflects the trend of applications at one center vs. the other, maybe we can understand why VSC is slower. Hang in there guys, it's a matter of time before approval.

Yes, i called the MDV in Phoenix and told them of the situation, they advised me to call the supervisor in my home town MDV and they told me to come down and they will see what they can do, and they sorted it for me. Was imperative that I get my license back as I run my own company and cant work without it.

If you have received your NOA that is also enough evidence for them to extend your license.

One little tip, if you have a SSN then they legally can not refuse to extend/renew your license (unless you have a bad driving record) as it is against something called the real ID act.... my attorney told me about this, never heard of it before lol.

Hello everybody

I went and I had my biometrics done today. Came there 30 minutes earlier, it didn't even take 5 minutes. Tried to get my passport stamped for traveling the officer told me you don't need it if you have your extension letter.

Now we have to wait for a long time now I hope they hurry up lol.

Anybody try to renew their drivers license in CA with the NOA? We were told that they couldn't do it. I need some tips/advice. Thanks!

my wife's license expired the same day as her green card..she received an extension notice in the mail before that asking to submit proof of legal presence to recieve her extension. We returned that with a copy of her NOA, but the DMV stated that her NOA is not valid until her green card expires...therefore they were unable to process her DL extension until everything had expired! Fortunately, we were able to get them to issue a temporary license in the meantime, until she received her new DL. All of this is done by calling the Legal Presence division of the DMV in Sacramento, since the local DMV was useless. Here is the # for you to call:

We had to call a few different times to get it all sorted out. Hope that helps!

Obviously I DID NOT state that I was a USC, which was also pretty clear since I was applying showing a foreign passport and an employment authorization card. Am I the only lucky one?

I got the same thing when I renewed my driver's license. They gave me one valid until 2015. I showed them my old driver's license green card and my passport. so I don't think it's a mistake.

i am about to file in my i-751, i have all the financial co mingling, lease, credit card, sams club joint acct,auto,medical and life insurances, but my tax return was married but filling separately, due to spouse not been ready at time of filling, would this affect my petition in any way?

My drivers license is valid until 2014. When I saw the posts about the license expiration I raced upstairs to check mine LOL.

My husband's is valid until 2016, and he received it while pending for AOS back in 2010. It's astounding how procedures and expirations vary from state to state. His currently pending ROC status hasn't affected anything in regards to his license or his employer, which I've noticed is another issue some people have.
