Okay so we have filed, have the receipts, biometrics done and just waiting. Is there anything more we can do to prepare for the interview or next phase of this process? Once he can get his social, I will add him to my insurance, bank account, credit card account, etc but is there anything more than can be done to show life after marriage? Do we need more photos, letters from family/friends. If we take a trip do we still need pictures of family together, itinerary, boarding passes, etc for the interview? Any advice is greatly appreciated!! :whistle:

Hi does your husband have a tax is number(ITIN)? I think you guys should go to the bank and explain to them that he doesn't have an SSN but you'd like to add him to your acct. Bring along your marriage certificate and his and your id. As for the credit card for now you should add him as an authorized user in that way he'll get a card also. It'll have the same number as the one you have and he doesn't need ssn to do that. As for trying prepared just treat this interview like an exam lol or any work interview. Just study the paperwork together. Test your knowledge on each other. Put the copies of everything you sent (including originals) in a folder.

By the way walk with a utility bill (preferably one with both of you guys name) to use as proof of address.

Don't wait for the SSN. Assume you won't get it before the interview (we didn't). Hopefully you do, and in time for you to use it, but don't depend on it.

I'd get pictures of everything you do together between now and your interview. Start looking for things you can add him to that don't require a SSN. Like the other person said, maybe a authorized user on your credit card. Or find a bank that will let you add him. Affidavits from family and friends are good too.

My husband added me to the bank account with no problems at all. We just needed

1.- Utility bill with both names on it (we did ComEd)

2.- 2 forms of identification with a picture on it (passport and drivers license from Argentina did it)

3.- We also presented our lease and renters insurance JUST in case.

We have PNC and it was no problem at all

Day 0 08/21/2012 Sent I-130, I-485, I-765 and I-131

Day 1 Received the next day via UPS

Day 6 08/27/2012 email and text for all 4

Day 10 08/31/12 NOA1 for all 4 and Biometric appointment for 09/21

Day 18 09/08/12 REF on I-485, waiting for the letter

Day 34 09/24/12 RFE hard copy for I-864

Day 51 10/11/12 RFE Response sent (about 30 days behind)

My bank (BB&T) defintely said he has to have his SSN before they will allow me to add him to my account so I will just have to wait. I rent a small basement apt/room from a friend. When I moved here last year, she told me to stay there with her until I became familiar with the area and settled in with my job and found a place, etc but then Gesi and I decided to marry on his last visit and that kind of halted plans (at least until he is working). She said she would be happy to draw up a lease showing us both on the lease (it's just me as he came after I moved here). However, since it's a friend, I didn't want USCIS to think we were making something up being it's not our own home/apartment through a housing association. It's very common in this area for people to rent basement apartments and share homes/rent rooms but how would they know that.

I added him as a user on my credit card but it just gave him a card, didn't list him on the account.He doesn't have a drivers license here (again, maryland requires a SSN) so I can't add him to my car insurance. Our apartment is all bills included so I cannot add him to any utilities. So I am looking into more things I can add him to now and what more we can do to strengthen our case.

If your friend makes you a contract for renting, you can have renters insurance and add him since he is living with you. No SSN required.

My husband is an authorized user on several of my credit cards. In one case, I got the bank to write me a letter saying that he was an authorized user, and that he was added in 2007. (I figured that was good because it showed the length of our relationship.) For the others, I just copied both of our cards, so it shows the same account number but both our names.

You could also get your friend to write an affidavit saying that you both live there, you're a real couple, etc.

Or, like the previous poster said, get the lease done so you can get renters insurance. I added my husband to my renters insurance but all they would send me was a letter saying I had added an occupant, but no name. That was annoying.
