That differs by country. For Canada, you can get it done whenever, doesn't need to be within a certain time frame of the interview. I got mine done about a month before my interview. Most medicals are valid for 6 months though.

Am I right that if you do your medical way early, your visa will be valid for less time, as the visa expires with the medical?? Or am I making things up?

For example - medical is valid until Christmas 2012, so if you have an interview in november, you only have until Christmas to enter the US as it will expire with the medical.

Typically, yes, that's what happens. I just saw this recently where a Canadian member had her medical done in April, then an interview shortly afterwards. Had to return for a second interview in September, got approved, and her visa was only valid till October.

This might vary by country though.

That's how it is with most places. Only a few countries allow for advance medicals (Philippines being one of them).

But what is needed is the hubby's marriage certificate(s) (requirement for IR-5 visa applicants).

Other than that, looks good good.gif

Are you serious. Why do they need our marriage license. Him being married and I do not have anything to do with this petition. Ugg, I just drove home to get the documents and didn't get that. Wasted trip.

Since you don't have a signature, when did you get your case number assigned? When was the IV package mailed? Need these 2 dates before I can add you.

You need to read NVC's site more closely: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html Pay close attention to the section on petitioner's documents. Since your case is an IR-5, you need a few more documents. Why the marriage certificate is required, I don't know, but it's needed.

I swear I can't do anything correctly with this paperwork. I just got a e-mail from NVC and I didn't fill out my I-864A correctly. I put my name and signature where I was to put my husbands name.

Do I just resend the I-864A and none of the other documents? Do you think there is a chance they would accept it via e-mail since I've done the DS-261 and Ds-260 via e-mail? Should I call and ask if they would? instructions say mail.

You just need to send the I-864A and either the checklist cover sheet or the AOS cover sheet from the payment portal. No other documents.

And you can only email packages if you're in the EP program.

I don't' know if I'm considered in the "EP" program because my case number is CDJ. I send the AOS packet via mail and was told my an operator at NVC it had to be sent via mail, (but don't know if they were correct with that). However, I had to do the ds-261 and ds-260 via the web site and am getting ready to send the supporting documents via e-mail. I read somewhere that CDJ only does the DS-260 & 1 electronically. The request for correction was sent via e-mail but said to mail the forms in.

The operator was correct about you mailing the AOS package.

You're confusing two very different programs.

Electronic Processing (EP) : emailing packages (AOS and IV)

Online forms: completing the DS-261 and DS-260 online

For those with CDJ case numbers, you ONLY are eligible (required actually) to do online forms. You are NOT eligible to do EP. So, you MAIL your AOS and IV packages. You do NOT send your IV package by email. You're not eligible. You need to mail it, exactly like the AOS package.

The reason why you got the checklist by email is that you provided both email addresses to an operator once the case number was signed. By doing this, you receive correspondence from NVC by email instead of snail mail. Emailing the checklist to you does NOT make you suddenly eligible to email packages.

When was the DS-261 accepted?

Well, the 24th was when I realized I wasn't going to get an email, and checked the forms portal and noted it listed as 'Completed'. Could have said that days before, I'm not sure. Nothing says "accepted," though.
