The guides and NVC should really make it clear that 'certified' does not mean.. certified.

apollo - certified implies that it is issues by the original organization/governing body.....i.e. your birth cert was issued to you from the department of health/civil registry/courthouse, although it is a copy of the original (the one given upon birth). it is considered certified only if said governing body certifies the validity of the document.

notarized is not the same as certified. notaries carry different weight in different countries, so a notary can´t actually "certify" in this context, they can only notarize.

meanwhile in the batmobile - my mom is my joint sponsor as I make way under the poverty guidelines. Even so, I am aware that documentation and i-864 is needed from me as the primary sponsor. however, HR at my university is being a pain in my neck about getting me the letter (last time i requested a doc it took 2 months from HR!). do I really need the this letter since I don´t make the minimum anyway? I have my paystubs and i have a letter from my other employer, along with my tax returns, etc all the other AOS good stuff.

my aos package is ready to send otherwise...is it worth the wait?

also - AOS and IV both appear as paid. I believe I read I can send both packages in the same envelope, is that correct?

FInally - my co sponsor is my mother, although we are not in the same household. do I still need to prove our relationship with a birth cert?? I would rather send in my PP photocopy...(as apollo said, it´s ridiculous)

I understand, but it's a certified copy. They accept a certified copy of my passport (which, required my birth certificate to be validated in the first place). The US accepts said passport every time I visit without hesitation.

It's just a tedious, convoluted process. It's 2012, things should be more efficient.

Being that the employment letter is optional, no, you don't need it. Especially if you're not even using your income and have a joint sponsor.

Yes, if you wish to send the two packages together, you can.

The proof of relationship doesn't need to be an original or certified copy. You can simply send in a photocopy of the birth certificate.

Make sure (if you didn't know) to have proof of your mother's US citizenship/residency in the AOS package.

I would include the birth certificate, just in case. Then you've got all bases covered.

Ugh. Got an e-mail from the Stockholm embassy this afternoon.

Dear Sir,

Due to unforeseen circumstances we will need to cancel your appointment on October 9, 2012 and re-schedule either before October 5 or after October 12. Please let us know when you would like to come.

Sincerely,

Sincerely,

Immigrant Visa Unit

I replied that I would prefer a new interview date before October 5, if that is possible. I just want this to be over so I can be with my wife. I've had it up to here with all the waiting and uncertainty.

Hi tensix106,

No, not yet. I will call later today to ask again. It seems some people get their case completed in 10 business days and that is what I am hoping for. Today is the day 6 for me. I will keep you guys updated.

Anyone have any idea how long it's been taking for your DS-261 to be accepted?

I completed the DS-261 on last Thursday (9/20) and just about, oh, five minutes ago, I got an email to both confirm my enrollment in EP and acceptance of the choice of agent form.

Now that I'm done waiting anxiously for that, I can start waiting anxiously for the IV bill to invoice...
