Just wanted to know if its possible for a K1 holder to travel once entering the US for a family emergency (death in family etc.) . If yes what is the procedure. informational purposes only. Thanks

Yes, but reentry will be impossible on that K1 visa as it's one use only.

So the recommended path is to marry and file for AOS and include application for EAD and AP at the same time. I think some are getting AP in two months. This AP will then allow you to get back in.

The K1 visa is a ONE entry visa. So, once you are in the US, in order to be able to travel abroad again (you can travel within the US), you will need an authorization Advance Parole (AP).

After you get married, you will Adjust your Status (AOS) and it's encouraged that you file your AOS papers along with a combination of other forms that will grant you an EAD (work authorization) before you get your green card + AP. They usually send you these two 3 months after you've filed.

If you choose to travel outside of the US without an authorization or without your Green Card, you will be unable to come back to the US unless you file a petition for a spousal visa.
