what happens if the immigrant is working without a work visa? do they get caught? how will the government know? what are the consequences? Especially if you are filing for an adjustment of status...

It is a criminal act.... For both the employer and the employee. Many employers in my state are serving long prison sentences for this crime.

Many people think it's ok to work and get paid under the table. "No big deal, I'm not hurting any one."

Yeah, maybe. But when a million people are not paying their taxes, that means the rest of us have to cough up more in taxes to cover what the illegally employed are not paying.

Honestly I wouldnt try it.Remember you are still going through another stage after this process where you have to fill out forms and questions similar to this could come up on those forms. As far as the consequeances you would have violated your status which could lead to deportation. Not worth it for sure.

Long prison sentences for working without a visa? Come on man!!!!! What state do you live in? Even Sheriff Apaio in Arizona does not jail employers for hiring people without work visas.Leave the scare tactics to the Republicans

"Financial irregularities brought to light by the raid and subsequent investigations led to a conviction of the plant's chief executive Sholom Rubashkin on bank fraud and related charges. He was sentenced to 27 years in prison, and his trial on immigration charges was canceled."

So it wasn't employees working under the table that brought that employer a long sentence in jail, it was bank fraud and related charges.

Anyone without papers will not be able to work for any company of worth due to I9.

I am not an advocate of breaking laws but here is what this Guy on skidrow says Elzie Alexander "You're going to do stuff you're not proud of. But there's no inherent respect in starving to death either. Sometimes you have to do it."

So, you are telling me that ICE raided that plant because of bank fraud???

Just because he was not tried for those charges, doesn't mean it did not happen. They knew what was going on. So did ICE. That plant knew those workers were undocumented because e-verify was in affect at that time.

Yes, thank you. That is what I stated. Employers are now incarcerated.

The undocumented workers were jailed temporarly and convoy bussed home.

yeah....I'm sorry I have strong feelings about this. I am just a hardworking, poor, farmboy. I live in a small dilapidated house and have a 25 year old car that barely runs.

I work hard, and pay all my taxes. I have NEVER received a handout from the government.

But I see so many that are receiving government welfare aid....foodstamps, etc. (which I am not saying is bad, if truly needed), but so many of these people are living in nice houses and driving nice cars. #######...???

....and what happened to welfare being a step towards getting back on your feet??? Now-a-day millions are making a good living on welfare aid.

By-the-way....did I get off topic? sorry

The longer it takes to happen the more you'll appreciate it when it does!
