Again, that is what we do. We are there beside you. I had a woman come into my office this week. 27 years old. Has a 12 year old, an 8 year old, twin 3 year olds and is pregnant with triplets!! She came to our office for help. She loves her kids, but triplets are scaring her to death. She wants to give them up for adoption when they are born becuase she said there is no way she can handle 7 kids and needed help to find out where to go and how to do that. She is doing the best she can in her situation. The dads are MIA and not a help. She is on welfare and that helps alot and we help her with her elect bills. The triplets were just not in the plan, she was looking forward to going back to work full time when her 3 year olds were in school. I understand that. She has hope...and she laughs because she can't believe how fertile she is!!! When you take the statistics down to human level, it is real. These are real people with real feelings, concerns, and worries. We take it one file at a time....

And would you have been so compassionate is the same woman came in and asked for help in getting an abortion?????

Actually, I think you will find that a large majority of the soup kitchens and things of the like are run by religious organizations or get large volunteer populations from religious organizations. At least, that is true around where I live. You don't have to agree with anything but don't say that religious people don't help out the community, I think you'd be hard pressed to find a church where there aren't many volunteer things going on at any given time.

Not saying religious people always do the right thing and all are volunteers but you can't escape the fact that they do do a lot (I'm mainly talking about Christians since I can't speak for other religions but I'm not trying to exclude, I can only talk from personal experience though).

Yes there are people from churches that do help but its always the same people you see.... out of the 1000's of people who live in Boston it is less than 2 % that help other people...

Very sad

Kezzie

#######, I am anti-abortion as it is not something for me personally, but I am pro-choice. I chose not to have an abortion when I was a teenager. People that only see things in black and white also show ignorance and a lack of understanding of the many variables in life. Life isn't tidy with everything in its place as those places will mean something else to another person. Nobody has the right to force their moral beliefs on another. That goes across the board to cover many issues throughout the world. e.g. Missionaries caused havoc in the past with various cultures by forcing their beliefs. What right does anyone have to say 'only my way is the right way'.

now to really muddy the waters........

all of the previous posts are interesting and thought provoking. and yours is well put, aussie. kudos to you.

however, as a guy, i have to wonder just why men are so wound up about this topic. it sure ain't their body they are trying to regulate.

if i have to choose between the two, i believe pro choice is where i'd choose for the reason of at least there is a choice in that regard. i don't approve of abortion as a form of birth control, but in cases of rape or incest, such must be available. and then there is the topic of if the child is born deformed, etc.

i believe this topic belongs entirely in the hands of women to resolve as it is a woman that carries the baby for 9 months, not the man. so you women figure it all out

It's not about regulating a woman's body, it's about the right of a unborn baby to live, or lack thereof. Once that is decided, the rest follows.

If there is nothing wrong with choosing abortion, then what's wrong with choosing abortion as a form of birth control? Some countries are just fine with that. Aren't the Chinese still aborting mostly female babies?

Actually in the words of the pro-choice faction, it's not a baby the woman is carrying, it's just a fetus. Calling it a baby before it leaves the mothers body is fraught with peril if you are really pro-choice. :)

Can you really be a feminist and pro-life? Find out!

There is no law that forces you to attend a church or believe anything. Belief in God is the history of this nation and you can't erase history

Is it just me, or does anyone else find those yes and no smileys really effin' snarky?

I have women come in all the time that think that abortion is their only option. Most of the time they do not want to abort the baby they just do not want the pregnancy to complicate their lives further. We help them sort through the complications and give them options. Because aborting the baby does not solve their problems like they think it will. We work to solve the underlying issues in their life-we have a financial section, therapy/counselling section, special needs, faith formation etc.

and BTW, yes, we are as compassionate to the woman that comes in panicted that wants an abortion to those that come in that have already choosen life and are working through it.

Woman after woman is without support. The men are gone and not interested in helping. That is the underlying issue. Non-comittment, sex before marriage. These women are left to hold the bag after their "men" run off with someone else. Very rarely is it a couple that is working through tough times. It is women. That is why the feminists for life is so great, because they are right. These women are being used and expoited and are left with the hard times and have to fend for themselves. We have these questionaires and woman after women put that the fathers are not supporting them and if I had a dollar for every time they tell me "no, they are no help-they're an assh*le"-I would be rich.
