I think people have been good about not using personal attacks though in this thread. I wonder why it would be reported/closed...

Legally, she didn't do anything wrong. Morally, what she did is wrong.

Bottom line... your body is your body, and no one should be able to tell you what you can or can not do with it. PERIOD.

Pro Choice is the law.

Deal with it.

If it's her body and no one should be able to tell you what she can or can not do with it (PERIOD), then why is what she did morally wrong? This is because in your heart you know killing the unborn child is wrong!

This sort of weird logic is what happens when the radical pro-abortionists hijack the women's rights movement.

Refuse to choose, women deserve better than abortion.

http://www.feministsforlife.com

I say it is morally wrong, since it is that individual that has to deal with their consequences, but no one should tell them what they can do to their own body. That would be like saying no more weight lifting to build muscles, or no more lipo suction, or no more cosmetic surgery.

Then there's the question of when do you consider a fertilized egg "life". In my opinion, it is not life until it can exist outside of the womb and survive.

Interesting conversation. Lots of good points on both sides :). Like someone said, this article is about legal and ethical decisions and their consequences. Legally it appears that this was ruled 'ok' under present US law. Ethically then depends on your beliefs. In many countries abortions for example are common place and not considered unethical. China would be an example of a country where abortions do not carry near the social or ethical stigma. In fact the government the supports and provides abortions to expectant mothers for various reasons (one child rule for example). So the definition of what is right and wrong is very dependent on your beliefs and the community's beliefs.

On a side note has anyone seen the movie "Thank You for Not Smoking"? It was interesting and this reminded me of it.

Yeah, this is a rarity to see such a touchy topic be so well manored and not have the degree of personal attacks that you might expect :). Kudos!

 I agree completely! Except about the fertilized egg being life -- imo it is life, but it being alive doesn't mean the woman who is pregnant with it should HAVE TO see it to term if she doesn't want to.

Hmmm, "it is not life until it can exist outside of the womb and survive". Another slippery slope in the argument of the pro-choice folks. By that definition, humans under many other circumstances would be considered "not life".

When did our world become so distorted that we stopped seeing the truth?

Totally awesome.

Kid #3: No.

Nick Naylor: A scientific researcher of some kind?

Nick Naylor: Well then she's hardly a credible expert, is she?

also....

Joey Naylor: Dad, why is the American government the best government?

Nick Naylor: Because of our endless appeals system.

By your logic then, if I can sustain your life but you are a burden to me, then I have the right to terminate your life? The real question here is, when does the embryo/fetus/baby have it's own right to life, equal to yours?

Did you know the early feminists - people like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and Mary Wollstonecraft - were pro-life?

rclouse.... those quotes are hilarious!!!

C&M... I was also thinking about qualifying that statement about doing what you want to your body as long as it is "legal". :) It is kind of funny that trying to commit suicide is illegal, but I think that is because if someone "tries", then they don't have enough smarts to off themselves, then they deserve to end up in a loony bin!!!  Let's face it... if a person kills themselves, you can't do anything to them, except take away their insurance! :o

As far as a fetus "surviving outside the womb", I didn't say that it could not be assisted living, i.e. with life support. I am not one that would ever want to be hooked up to a "machine" in order to survive, and I pity those people whose families are so selfish that they would force an individual to continue to live, when their quality of life is ZERO.

So yes, you could terminate my life if I could not survive without being hooked up to a machine. Thank goodness for living wills!!! :)
