Most of what bothers me about the most vehement pro-lifers is how hypocritical they are when it comes to their own sisters and daughters. Abortion is bad, unless it's little blonde EmmaSarahWhatever with her top SAT scores and a future, then she just made a mistake and the parents whisk her away to the doctor. But all the other women? Are you saying that a human being has more right to life than a chicken? Or to put it another way, that a chicken does not have the same right to life as a human being?

If you are saying that I expect most people would agree with you, but they would do so without bothering to answer the question. I also expect that if human beings were intelligent enough to be able to communicate with chickens we might find out that the chickens disagree. That would add a new and exciting element to the discussion.

I guess the deciding factor is that the species with the most powerful weapons gets to decide which species has a right to life and which other species do not. Back when man and beast were on more equal footing with only teeth and claws for weapons, man was the prey rather than the hunter.

There are times when a person's actions remove his right to life. An unborn baby has not yet had the opportunity to commit any such actions however.

I know of people who have religion and have had an abortion. I sure as hell wouldn't say they were evil.

The unborn child is an innocent life that is a burden to it's mother through no fault of it's own, and will not kill it's mother if it's given the chance to live. The convicted murdered, on the other hand, has already demonstrated his ability and willingness to kill and could go on to kill others if left to live. Most pro-lifers probably also believe in the right to self defense. Of course you could keep the murderer in prison for life, but which is worse, life imprisonment or execution?
