I will add to what Jay-Kay posted. (she is absolutely correct btw)

There is another reason to copy all of the pages which isn't in writing. This is to show that you are not trying to; #1-hide anything and #2- that nothing has been manipulated in your passport. There are several super senior members who advocate this. I am of the same opinion.

   I am in this camp as well.

Let's see...front cover, bio page, emergency contact page, 28 pages for visas, a page for endorsements, back cover. If you put two items per page that is about 16 pieces of paper. $0.50 for color copies works out to be $8.00. Express mail to send package to USCIS is what $10-$20. FedEx to remote parts of the world can run hundreds of dollars. And people are concerned about making copies of all the pages in the passport. It is such a simple thing to do. I had stamps all over my passport so it made sense to me to show every page. Up to you, but I decided to copy every page.

My passport expires in 2015. Can I use it as my proof of US Citizenship? The reason I ask is that in the Tips section it says that the passport should be valid for 5 years (my passport is a 10 year passport but only has 3 years left of validity). Thanks for your help!

It is impolite to hijack another person's thread. But to answer your question... No. This is answered clearly in the instructions of the I-129F.

Yes, you can use it to prove your US citizenship. The instructions state it must be a passport that was issued with a validity of at least 5 years. Yours is a 10 year passport. It doesn't matter that it expires in 3 years. Make sure to copy all pages front to back.

Do i need to make color copies of my passport???

It doesn't matter if you make black and white or color copies. The copies just need to be clear and legible.

Jcliff, I apologize for not being as clear.... You said your passport had only 3 years left. That is why I answered No you can't. I should have went further to say, "Because yours doesn't have 5 years left as the instructions (which you quoted) stated." Sorry for the confusion.

To the OP. To save money on all of the photocopying, we were able to get 4 passport pages onto one photocopy. I remember spending an incredible amount of time at the photocopier one daywhistling.gif

What if your passport (the one with all of your stamps) will be expiring soon (as in a couple months)? Any problem scanning/copying it anyway?

What are you using it for? Proof of meeting? I would still scan it and have a copy and then file for a new one. That way you have the stamps to prove going to that country and then photos or receipts to show you were there and together. If people would think of this process like a court of law and you have to show evidence that you two were together in the last two years how do you do that the number of question here on VJ might go down. First you show you were in the same country. Stamps in passport show you actually travelled to the SO country or they travelled to the US. It still does not prove you actually met. Photos of the two of you together in front of a recognizable land mark. Maybe a receipt or two to show the dates you were in that city. Okay now you have proven beyond a reasonable doubt that they two of you met within the last two years. Next requirement.

The wife came to the US the first two years and then I went to Kazakhstan. I used the airline boarding passes to show she and I were on the airplane, I used her tourist visas and stamps to show she actually arrived in the US and my tourist visa and stamps to show I was in Kazakhstan. Then I inculded photos of each trip with the two of us in front of the White House the first year, at the Grand Canyon the second year and of us in front of the TV Tower in Almaty. Add a couple of receipts to show date and city and we were done.

Good luck on your jounrey,

Dave

You are still incorrect in your answer though. The instructions do not state you need to have '5 years left'. The instructions state your passport must be unexpired and had been issued with a validity of at least 5 years. It does not need to have at least 5 years left until it expires. It needed to be valid for a period of at least 5 years at the time it was issued. They can use their passport because it was issued with a 10 year validity, and it is not expired, as it won't expire for another 3 years.

No problem. That is where your stamps are that prove you met in person. Make copies and send those in with your petition. If you are also using it to prove citizenship, then it is fine so long as it is unexpired and was issued with a validity period of at least 5 years. For citizenship proof, make sure to copy all the pages front to back.
