Hi all,

We filled our I129f petition for fiance and got approved. Our case was sent to the Toronto consulate last week and I am waiting for the letter to arrive for my interview.

Any idea how long it takes?

Can I do anything now to save some time just in case it will tight from receiving the letter to the date of the interview?

Unless you have some emergency or other special case, only the embassies/consulates in Vancouver and Montreal handle fiance visa applications. Toronto doesn't (unless they've changed recently and no one talked about it here on VJ).

And for fiance visas, you still have to submit a packet 3 before you're assigned an interview (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm not 100% knowledgeable on fiance visas).

Moved to the Canada forum, from the K-1 Forum since they are now waiting to deal with the process in Montreal.

Your interview will be in Montreal not Toronto, you will also schedule it yourself, online when you get the instructions to do so. The process changed since I did mine so I will let others explain it better for you.

You can in the mean time get the police check done, get a record of your vaccinations or a titre test if you don't have a record/can't find it. Get any vaccines you need.

As others have stated, it wil get sent to MTL automatically. Best to fill out ur timeline so others can give you a better idea on fast things will proceed!! Well---you will soon learn the word "fast" is really not in Montreals vocabulary, lol But they do try!! Welcome to VJ!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Thanks all for your help.

My I129F was approved 2 weeks ago and in the letter my fiance received it says they will send it to Toronto consulate.

How can I get medicals, Police clearance etc if I don't have my case/file # in the local consulate?

I guess I will have to take a trip to Montreal at some point :-)

The letter your fiance received should have the case number on it. The first 3 letters is the location. If you do not have it, I would call NVC and get the number.

Most Police detachments won't require anything---You just ask! Make sure to get it completed with all names you have used. Usually 1 of the easiest documents to get!! As well make sure you have a long form birth cert (the 1 with biological parents names on it)

And be prepared to goto MTL, unless they have very recently added Toronto, which is prob not likely. Only 2 consulates in Canada do K1's--Mtl and Van!! All depends where 1 lives in Canada. Cheers

From the sounds of it, you are looking at the NOA2...which says "I-797, Notice Of Action" at the top. Is that correct? You should receive another letter from the National Visa Center which has an MTL number on it.

Advice from thread pinned in this forum:

2. NVC

Once at least a week has passed, you can feel free to start calling The National Visa Center (NVC). Their number is: 1-603-334-0700 (Pressing 1 for English and 5 for an Operator). They will want both the petitioner and beneficiary’s names and dates of birth, as well as the receipt number for your petition. (WAC# if you went through California, EAC if you went through Vermont). NVC can’t do very much for you as a typical K1 petition doesn’t stay there very long, but this is the information you’re looking to get from them:

-Has your petition arrived at NVC? If not, there’s nothing they can do yet. It can take time for the petition to get there, anywhere from a week to a month, so don’t worry if you find yourself calling frequently.

-Once it’s arrived, does it have a Montreal case number yet? This number will begin with MTL and if they can provide it at NVC, write it down!

-Has the petition left for the consulate? Once this happens, you’re done with NVC! No need to call them for any further updates.

I-797/NOA2 only lists your alien number which will show up on your visa. The consulate number will look like #MTL00002012. 99% chance you will be interveiwing at Montreal, NVC must have had a newbie handle your case who sent it to Toronto.

By the way, Montreal does not assign interview for fiances- you get to book it yourself, so you some have control over the date.
