Hello VJers,

My PD is April 2011. I got an email from NVC on April 2012 asking me to pay the Affidavit Of Support (AOS) fees and Immigrant Visa (IV) Processing Application fees. I have already paid the fees online and I have made my paperworks ready to submit. I am doing Consular Processing from the US Embassy in my home country. My question is:

Since my PD is April 2011, I still have good amount of time before the PD becomes current. As per my attorney, the NVC (or the State Department. Not sure with whom I am corresponding) does not notify to pay the fees unless the PD is less than 6 months. However, he advised me to submit all the necessary documents. Has anybody been in this situation? Why are they asking me to pay the fees and submit the paperwork so early?

Thank you in advance for your inputs!!

Cheers!!

They usually ask for your documents 9 months before your PD becomes current.

After an immigrant petition filed in the United States is approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), it is forwarded to the National Visa Center (NVC) for processing. NVC plays an important role in the next steps of the immigrant visa process by providing instructions to petitioners, sponsors, and visa applicants; reviewing required Affidavit of Support forms from sponsors; and receiving fees, application forms, and other required documents from visa applicants. For numerically limited family preference petitions, NVC contacts the petitioner once the petition's priority date is about to become current.
