Some of the conservatives I work with happen to feel these social issues are very important, more so than wordly concerns over wages and jobs.

I am sure the reason must be they can't wait to adopt all those unwanted babies...

Abortion is the best red herring at times like these. By posturing and grandstanding on matters already ruled by the SCOTUS it gives the politicians in Arizona an excuse not to talk about job creation and actually running the state for which they were elected.

Have you noticed that all these nut jobs provide diversion also in the presidential race? While Romney and Ryan discuss the moot points behind abortion they don't need to talk about jobs and the economy...

I believe it is the Dems who are focusing on abortion, not the Repubs. Obama and some liberal organizations are the ones running the scare tactic commercials about abortion, the Repubs do not want to focus on this issue.

Then they should not have spent the last few years passing laws at the state level to limit choice.

They don't want to focus on it (publically, anyway) because they know their opinion/stance on the subject is unpopular. It's an important social issue and people pay attention to those, especially women.

I agree with you both. The Repubs need to evolve to modern day reality on this issue. It's puzzling to me how one political party can be so steadfast against abortion, but at the same time equally stubborn on giving welfare benefits. If you are going to prevent a woman from terminating an unwanted pregnancy, then you'd better be prepared to foot the bill for it.

As evidenced by Akin, Romney and Ryan, to be sure...

Isn't this standard medical practice, to use the start of the last cycle to calculate due date?

It uses it. That does not translate to it becoming the date of conception!! :bonk:

Another example of the scientifically illiterate having the hubris to think they can establish something scientific by legislative fiat!
