His base loved it. But it's not his base he's trying to impress or win over, is it?

He does need to enthuse them to ensure they all come out on election day.

It's the same reason Biden did his "chains" gaffe. It was intended to get the AA vote excited and if what little political commentary I hear on my local hip hop station is any indication it is working. There's nothing like a slavery reference to get them excited.

I still remember, on the same radio station (I need to grow up) back in 2000 there was reference to being dragged by pickup trucks if Gore lost to GWB.

the birthers have seen that countless times. they don't care. they believe (misguided and ridiculous as it is) that obama is not a usc.
