Hi! I am new to this so forgive me! My future husband has a 10 year old daughter in Jamaica! How difficult will it be and what is the process for getting her to visit during her summer holiday! And how difficult will it be and the costs to have his adult daughters, son in law, grandson, father come to the wedding in the States?

Thanks I am not as nervous about the wedding and marriage as I am messing up something in all this paper work. I am glad that this site is available!

Thakns Erin!

Hello and congrats on the upcoming wedding. I believe that the process involves applying for B2 visas (visitors visa) at the American Embassy in Jamaica. They give up to 10 year visas and the maximum they can stay is 6 months at a time...............but its best to keep it close to or under 5 months for when you apply in the future. My mother and a whole bunch of family members still live in Jamaica and this is how they visit. After the wedding and your husband gets his green card, he can file an I-130 application for his daughter to become a permanent resident also...............but thats much later. You might want to send them invitations and letters stating how much you'd like for them to come to the wedding.........this might help them in gettign teh visa. Also, in order to get granted visas they have to show strong ties to the country. The embassy website will help. Good luck!

Hi :star:

You will have to apply for Visitors visas for each of them. I believe the fee is $100 per application plus whatever other expenses you incur to get evidence and other documentation. It should be relatively easy to get a visitors visa for his daughter but for the adults...that is a really hard thing. Kingston is very picky and doesn't give away visitors visas very easy. I know a woman who has applied 4 times and shown proof of ties to the country such as...job for last 8 years, savings acct, land, car and family but she was still denied all 4 times due to being a "flight risk". Not saying that it is impossible but it sure isn't easy

I would definitely read up on the information on this website and the Kingston embassy site and get as much documentation as you possibly can that they will not be staying in the US and they have reason to return to JA.

Hope that gave you some insight

Jamie

ETA: Just wanted to also mention that they will need their passports and the adults applying for visitors visas will all have to attend an interview at the embassy.

They apply for Visitor Visa's - B2.

Good advice Jamie.
