God created Adam and Eve and gave them both a dollar and an interest-bearing checking account.

what did people eat before money was invented?

Actually people would die off is what would happen. In the middle ages there were periods of boom and bust - in boom population would grow and, in bust, usually associated with a drought or a crop disease, people would die and population would decrease. if you want to talk pre-money, it's the same thing. This cycle happened throughout human history until the last couple of centuries.

I don't think anyone would wish that the people now just die, would they? Especially people who say they are pro-life?

The real solution is education. Did you know that the number one way to decrease AIDS in Africa is to teach women to read? Think about that...

Similarly, we can talk about knee-jerk reactions to stop poverty, but the long-term, and cheapest solution is to educate these people (no Texas BS textbooks with misinformation) and make it so while they are learning, they can concentrate (feed them). Then maybe they can grow up and be able to keep a job, because they know that to keep a job you have to come to work on time. Really simple stuff, some of these people don't understand.

Cutting these programs now (and worse, cutting education funding) just makes more people need the program, hence the irony that the red states have more people on these programs. I really thought in the school lunch thread that republicans would be interested in the idea that if you give the kids healthy meals now so they can learn and get smart, they won't need welfare as adults. In the long run, that makes money because the person will pay taxes in their life and give money back to the gov instead of taking it for a lifetime. Instead, I just got replies full of swears in disbelief that people would die if they weren't eating breakfast and lunch, which is just not true.

Another thing that keeps people poor is having too much kids. Education is the best way to stop people from having a million kids, not eugenics.

This also reminds me of the state (was it Florida?) that started a mandatory drug testing for people on welfare. It makes sense, who wants poor people using handouts for drugs!? But, only 2% of the people failed the test and the state ended up losing a ton of money on the program, because it costs money to run all the tests. That is an example of a knee-jerk reaction that sounds good but has no foresight. It's not a way to save money, it wastes money.

Wouldn't we all be better off with fewer poor people? Let them die, I don't see the problem.

Speaking of fewer people. Did you see the report that if the population keeps growing the way it is that by the year 2050 there won't be enough resources to fulfill the worlds meat supply? Damn, don't be messin wit my steaks!

I think we can all agree that the lazy unproductive types (the poor) should be the ones who have to leave the island.

Okay, they can die, but we have to save their embryos at all costs.

A thinning of the heard can only make it stronger. With all of the govco handouts and protecting people from themselves that's taken place in the past few decades, natural selection has become obsolete.

There are more than enough spelling police to point out the weak.
