Yes, I agree the meeting online and visiting once or twice is generally foolish.

Either way it can be destructive to one's emotional health.

Oh, no doubt. It just sucks that some people are vulnerable to that trap. And I do pray those people meet someone later in their lives who truly love them.

But still. It's hard to see, as someone who HAS a valid relationship, people with kind of fake relationships get approved ASAP and here I am... still waiting...

I met my fiance online 11 years ago. It took me until February of 2012 to be able to work up the courage to go visit him. And I did and my entire life changed that weekend. I've seen him every 20-25 days since then. But I think if I would have to met him sooner, (besides being stupidly young and naive) it wouldn't have been as amazing as it is now.

I feel bad for the OP. It really sucks that he has wasted time, energy, money and emotions on this. I hope and pray that you are able to deal with this and get out of what seems like a dead ended marriage. Good luck and best wishes (F)

I'll never understand why USCIS approves petitions for people who meet online and then in real life all of two times before getting married... but then when someone like me (who LIVED with my husband, WORKED with my husband, and was PREGNANT with his child) drives 400 miles in one day to marry him while he's detained in immigration jail, USCIS thinks I have a f***ing fake marriage and takes twice the amount of time to approve my petition. This sh!t pisses me off so much.

Thank you so very much for posting this and I share your sentiments.

How exactly is anything he obtained done in an illegal manner? If he can view his wife's FB profile(s), then it's legal. FB is a public database. The point at which a subpoena is required would be when the FB profile is hidden or deactivated AND it is required for court. The only court matter would/could be divorce. You can by all means check the OP's state's statute, but the statute usually defines things for electronic media as video and voice recordings where both parties involved need to know a recording is being made. No I'm not a lawyer, however I have access to my particular state's statute and I have looked into the matter for using FB from a crazy ex posting about stalking me, for matters at which I will not discuss. And you can read the privacy part of the user agreements to FB, YM, skype accounts.

The OP should at least make an attempt. She can't really file for RoC without him (unless she tries to claim VAWA). It's better to try and fail than to just give in.

FB can be set private, ofcourse if there is a subpeona issued then it i legal, it wasn't implied if and when the profile was set private or not. Even in what way OP obtains the chat logs, if and when his wife is really doing anything, it doesn't make sense for the OP's wife to give the OP the log in. Without subpeona, whatever he have acquired is done in an illegal way. But, i am not here to say I am right, it is best to seek advice from people who really can help him. My point is, it always is best to make moves in the right way than be sorry. And yes you are right, th OP should make an attempt, nobody here says don't...just do it in a way that will not add more to the problem there is now.

And the point of your biblical quote is?

Maybe they're saying karma is a ###### and this girl will get hers later in life?

Either that or they're pissed I'm judging.

Hi Dan and Rheamy -I just want to share my thought here - no bad intentions but merely sharing my thought ok? Anyway, here's my thought - i agree that the OP shouldn't prey himself over negative emotion. It will just consume his well being and sanity. But I do not agree to just letting it go. The OP should do something if not to stop, atleast to prevent further fraud his wife may cause in future time. I don't just want to let karma do the job on that we must first do. I am not sure whats the impact in reporting to the ICE, but I think he really should. If everyone just let it go, marriage and / or visa fraud will just go on and on.

I'm not educated on this issue by any means, and I admit that I have not read every single post, but might I suggest that if you plan on staying with her until ROC is due, that you get a camera system installed so that you have evidence to refute any VAWA attempt?

You misunderstood.

No one is saying that he should just play possum.

What we are saying is get a divorce (severe that tie now not 5 years later when you need to file a new petition like some VJers), provide all the evidence to the authorities and then proceed to go in search of your definition of American dream.

Some VJers let themselves fester in the cesspool of previous bad relationships, getting feedback and updates on their Exes fed to them, not getting divorced for years, etc Basically OP should cut and dash while leaving the evidences with USCIS. OP should also not try to consume himself with what USCIS does or doesn't do with the information. USCIS didn't bring the canniving lying SOB to the states, the OP did, so there should not be any worries to make her leave on their part until she breaks a high crime.
