Another bitter has-been venting his frustration. His own party didn't want him, so he gets upset and wants to get his own back. Very childish behaviour. <_<

So, a typical politician, then!

Charlie is a politician. :wow:

He connects with people because he gives the impression that he cares more about FL and the nation than he would ever care for any party. The Republicans have that all backwards today. Their new slogan ought to be: Party First.

So popular that the GOP didn't want him as their candidate for governor and the people of Florida voted for the other guy (and I believe you when you describe his character). Says a lot about Charlie Crist and even more about the Florida electorate. ;)

The GOP pushed Charlie aside because he wasn't nuts enough. Charlie grabbed 30% of the vote running as an independent. That's not bad for a candidate running for the US Senate without the backing of a major party. If the Democrats put him on the ticket, he could sink Rubio in 2016. He's a good guy. Doesn't care what side of the aisle you sit on - he wants to move FL and the country forward.

When the Democrats did that to Joe Lieberman, in the same kind of situation, he buried their candidate in the election. That's not bad.

I doubt he'd sink Rubio in 2016. With the rise of the Hispanic Conservatives, the GOP will make sure Florida is anything but a Senate swing-state. Charlie Crist is the past, Rubio just could be the future. We shall see.

Surprise! Crist will speak in Charlotte

After endorsing President Barack Obama over the weekend, the former Florida governor joins the lineup of speakers at next week's Democratic National Convention:

Florida's former Republican Gov. Charlie Crist will be a speaker at the DNC.

An official with President Barack Obama's campaign said Sunday that Crist will speak at next week's convention in Charlotte, N.C., but the day hasn't been worked out. ...

Crist announced Sunday that he is endorsing Obama, and Republicans called the decision political opportunism and pointed out Crist has previously criticized the president on issues such as his health care overhaul.

Crist's endorsement of Obama was also a sharp denunciation of the national GOP, but if he's going to have an impact anywhere it'll be Florida. His defection is both as predictable and as infuriating to his former party as Artur Davis's switch from Democrat to Republican, with one important difference being that Crist comes from a huge presidential swing state.

He's a patriot, putting country over party. Good for him.

Republicans do not see it that way.

At a Republican Party of Florida breakfast for convention delegates in Palm Harbor on Monday, incoming House Speaker Will Weatherford mocked Crist. He mentioned Tropical Storm Isaac, then said, "Speaking of winds blowing and people shifting positions, the Florida Republican Party had a former member of the Republican Party by the name of Charlie Crist."

The delegates booed.

"I knew that hugs could be powerful, but I really just had no idea until yesterday," Weatherford said.

Also at the breakfast, Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam criticized Crist for thinking of his own political career first.

"He'll wear any costume just to get in the parade," Putnam said.
