Hi I am new here and pray to god somebody can please answer my question. I am united states citizen married to a jamaican man. we applied to his children to become permanent residents in january 2012. Here we are came so far and now waiting to get an appointment for the children to go to the embassy. I understand they will wait til the appointment to decide if we need paternity tests. So my husbend never married the children's mother but his name is on both of the birth certificates and they have his last name. We did have to go to jamaica last year and have one birth certificate amended because his son's name was spelled wrong....so my million dollar question....WILL THEY ASK FOR A PATERNITY TEST FOR THE CHILDREN. i have read all the local jamaican articles regarding the embaressingly large amounts of jackets and am worried. HELP somebody

Does he have photos with the kids from throughout their lives? That can make a difference.

well i didn't turn any in because he didn't have any. they are so dam poor over there they didn't take pictures i guess of the family barley. me and him took lots of pictures when we went to jamaica in november but that's too recent. bottom line half the much read info says anyone born out of wedlock is for certain required for paternity test, although the other half says anyone without father name on birth certificate requires it. so his name is on the birth certificate but he had his children out of wedlock.

The probability of a DNA request being asked will be great. As you stated you have read and heard about the "jacket" issues. No one can tell you for sure what the embassy will do in your husbands situation. Just be prepare if DNA is requested.

They do take pictures, a lot of personal belongings have been destroyed in the hurricanes, including pictures. Either he chose not to take pictures, or their mother took pictures. Also, school pictures are taken. Ask their mom for pictures, you will probably have to take them to be printed, or copied.

It is subjective what he will be asked to do. There is a recent consulate interview about DNA, and a recent thread in the Jamaican portal about DNA.

actually he said they didn't own a camera. the family was poor. i ain't saying jamaicans in general don't take pictures i am saying my husbend told me there are not pictures of him and his kids in jamaica. and the mother is not cooperating with me as she ran out on her kids. so pictures isn't a option except the pictures i took of all of us last november.
