For those of you who will be in the path and wind swath of TS Issac (and later Hurricane Issac) here is an excellent website that contains all of the up to date information from a variety of different sources about the storm and its impact: I have found it invaluable in keeping informed - and helping me to make the appropriate types of preparations - when tropical weather strikes.

I would also like to share another suggestion from a friend who lives in Miami: designate a friend or family member who is not going to be affected by the storm and make them your primary contact. Provide them with a list of 'first tier' people you want informed about your status and well-being immediately after the storm- family members, closest friends, etc.. During and after the storm communications will be a mess, and it will be extremely difficult for people to contact you in the storm area. It will also be difficult for you to connect out y you may only have the chance to make one call. Make that one call count. Instead of calling everyone you need to call, call your designated primary contact person with your update. After they hear from you, they will then contact your first tier of contacts, who will then pass the information on to their 'circles' of acquaintances. She has used this system very successfully for a number of years now and it has kept friends and family informed in a fast and efficient way. Her 'primary contact' is in Ontario, Canada, well out of the way of being affected at the same time by the same storm. I am in her first 'tier' of contacts and when her primary contact contacts me I am able to pass along the updates to the friends and groups we have in common. I really recommend that you put such a system in place. It will make it so much easier on those who are worried about you as well as taking the pressure off of you to let people know you are safe when you will have other issues to deal with at the time.

Good luck and stay safe.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Very practical. I live in NJ but have designated a relative in Kentucky as my emergency contact. And everyone know to get in touch with him in an emergency.
