Hi all,

I am about to apply for police certificate from my home country(I live outside of my country though) My question is when is the good time to apply for it? We sent the I-129F packet on May and got NOA1 and still waiting for NOA2. Should I apply for police certificate now or should I wait until I get NOA2? anyone has experience please let me know..Thanks guys

What country are you from? Have you looked at the consulate's requirement for the K1 where you will interview?

Some countries have shorter expiration dates of police certificates than others.

I am from Thailand and will have interview at Montreal consulate in Canada. I have looked and they said 6 months the expiration date but I don't know when I will get NOA2

The important thing also is to get informed on how long it will take to receive the police certificate from the time your request it.

Are you a permanent resident of Canada? Or just there on some sort of visa?

Just wondering how you are so sure that you will interview there. I think you should realize that you may have to interview in Thailand.

Here is some information regarding a similar situation recently from JimVaPhuong. Very reputable VJ member.

When a visa applicant is from a different country than the one that the US consulate is located in then the US consulate usually requires the applicant to have resident status in that country, and not merely be a visitor. This is meant to prevent "consulate shopping", which is when a visa applicant travels temporarily to a different country because they believe their chances of getting a visa at the US consulate in that country is better than it would be in their home country. For example, the US Embassy in Lagos, Nigeria, is known to be an extremely tough consulate because of the level of visa fraud there. A Nigerian national would likely not be allowed to interview at the US Embassy in London unless they had resident status in the UK.

I don't know what sort of status is conveyed by a work visa in Canada, or if that would be enough for the US consulates in Canada to allow you to interview there. If the US consulate in Canada won't accept the petition package then you would have to return to Thailand and interview there

The bolded part I changed to be specific to you...

Maybe because you submitted the application you may get to interview there. Have you asked anyone about this?

If it only takes a few weeks to get and expires in 6 months, you are probably better off waiting for your NOA2.
