Hello all,

This may be a complete shot in the dark but hopefully someone can answer my question. I need to translate a document that is native Khmer language. I am currently living in Minnesota and cannot find anywhere that has the capability to translate Khmer to English. I have found several government centers that translate hundreds of languages but none have the ability to translate Cambodian. I cannot send this document to Cambodia for translation as this particular document MUST have an american authentication stamp of translation versus a Cambodian government stamp. This document is not specifically for K1 applications but rather a work-related (green card) document after-the-fact and I would rather not go into specifics on the nature of this request.

If anyone knows of an avenue that I can take to find a center that can translate Khmer Language in or around Minnesota it would help me greatly!

Thank you.

Moved from K1 Process & Procedures to Asia: East & Pacific regional forum; OP stated in original post that the needed translation is not for the K1 process, translation of language needed by the OP is specific to this region. Duplicate thread removed.

I am not sure what type of document you are dealing with, but for the purpose of a K-1 visa if you are fluent in both languages, you can certify it yourself. I am going to paste what a member sent me and I did the research—after I paid to have several documents translated, and it is true.

Probably no such thing. Alla is a professional interpreter and translator and there is no such thing, legally, as a "certified" translator in this state and I doubt in many, if any, others. There ARE certified translations.

Actually she currently has both "Certified Legal Interpreter" and "Certified Medical Interpreter" classifications ...BUT these are from private industry sources, they are not government certifications but something from recognized industry sources to verify competence for her clients. They were required by our local court system and the largest local medical center but are not required "by law", it is more or less a "company policy" of 2 of her clients. They are big clients so she likes to keep them happy $$$$ They are NOT required to do translations for USCIS or the US consulates.

ANY person competent in both languages can do the translations, you can even do your own.

The certification is simply a statement such as Alla uses in the example Gary gave.

Below is another example I copied from USCIS.

Certification by Translator

I [typed name], certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and ________ languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled ______________________________.

Signature_________________________________

Date Typed Name

Address

Now you can, if you want to pay and have the “authentic” look of a seal from a company that says “Certified Translation” you can go online, there were many when I goggled “Khmer to English certified translations” and get the best price. That is what I did initially—you email them the document, they translate it, email it back to you with a company coversheet, print it and you are done.
