My brother got married in Mexico last January. My mom was there. Since coming back she has been sick. First they said it was a parasite and gave her antibiotics.

She began feeling worse and worse each month. She has fallen twice, lost all control and just fell over cracking her ribs once. They tested for everything they could think of. She thought maybe it was just fibromyalgia.

Then she started gaining weight....a lot of weight. My mom has always been thin. She was wearing a size 8/10 when we moved end of June. She is now in a 1X (sz 20).

She is having urgent, cramping, painful, mucus filled, bloody stools about 8-10 times a day. She has no energy at all and is in pain all over.

I did a lot of searching online and came to the conclusion she has a parasite. She went back to the Dr. and told them what I had found. They did more tests and said yes that is what it is. Probably an amoeba, probably has reproduced.

More antibiotics and a cleanser to drink twice a day to clean her out. 2 weeks later, she is worse than ever.

She is crying all of the

I just wish they would figure it out and fix her

I got some kind of bug when I was in Mexico and suffered with diarreah, cramping and nausea for weeks after I returned to Canada.

It finally got so bad that I couldn't even walk standing straight up.... I had to bend over to walk.

I went to my doctor and he gave me two kinds of pills and in about a week, I was feeling much better.

The next time I go to Mexico, my doctor said I should just take these 2 kinds of pills with me, just in case I get the same kind of bug again.

I wish I could remember what the pills were, but it was a few years ago, and I just can't remember.

I hope she starts feeling better soon. And my heart does go out to you for not being able to be with your Mom when she isn't feeling well.

I would have her examined by a specialist, maybe a Gastroenterologist.

Antibiotic is for the secondary enteritis but you said she is getting a cleanser....what kind of a cleanser?

She needs strong enough meds to kill the parasite if that's really what it is.

Certain parasites migrate throgh different body systems at different intervals and she needs

more agressive treatments, especially if the 'cleanser' is a mild alternative herbal remedy for mild

parasitic infections.

Depending on what exactly it is, Flaggyl may help.

Oh cristy! I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom *hugs* Does she live in Saskatchewan here? Is there anything I can do? Bring her? Inquire about for you? Just let me know if you do.

Many people I know who have had somewhat similar maladies have said it takes a very long time to clear parasites out of your system.

I can empathize with you having your Mom so far away at this time. My Mom had breast cancer two years ago and she lives in Ontario. Still a long ways away....

Please keep me updated and let me know if there is anything I can do.

Yeah she is in Strasbourg. That is really, really kind of you to offer. We sent her some flowers tonight so hopefully that will at least cheer her up some.

They were going to hospitalize her but she is a foster mom to 3 little guys and my step dad has MS and is in a wheelchair. So her leaving is really a last resort.

I guess she did take an anti parasitic. Obviously not the right ones. :(

If it continues though KEEP ON at the doctors. If you feel what they have said is wrong keep on and on at them until you get the correct treatment. If you're not happy with the diagnosis tell them. Get your Mom and the family members who are close by to make it clear to the docs they are not happy with the treatment so far. Sometimes it pays to be bolshy with them.

Hope she recovers very soon Cristy.
