I am not sure but here is what I think. You cannot change your status WITHIN the United States. Meaning, once you enter as an F1 student, you cannot change it to B1 status. So, I think your quickest option would be to apply for B1 visa first, where you'd bring your letter of invitation from that elective program that wants you there with a B1 visa. Once, you've got your B visa, then if you already got your I-20 from whichever institution you have applied to, then go back to the Embassy and obtain your F1 visa. Now, you could enter on your F1 visa to the US, and do whatever schooling you need to do. Then, costly a bit, but step out of US (go to Mexico, Canada wherever you will be closer to within the States) and step back in using your B1 visa. That's all that comes to my mind as an option but I could be waaaay out of line. That majorly sucks that you have only 3 days between the two programs....good luck!

COS is possible, but You have to file before your I-94 expires. Basically you need to apply for the change of status BEFORE the current visa expires. meaning I don't think it is possible to apply for a program that starts 2 days AFTER your current visa expires, because that defeats the purpose of changing status. But i could be wrong. Plus it takes a long time. I was told around 4 months, mine took 7 and I never got a request for evidence or anything....

You can apply for her, but the waiting time in F1 category (and she must stay unmarried for the whole time; and have a hegal presence in the US for the whole time as well, I suppose) is aproximately 7 years now. If she gets married, the waiting time will be longer for about 3 years.

Find a nice USC for her to marry.

It takes 7 years for a US citizen to petition for a son or daughter over the age of 21. There are no short cuts, otherwise other people would have discovered it by now.

She must be legal in the US if she wants to benefit from the petition you file. If she becomes a visa overstay, she will not be able to get a green card.

She must wait in Brazil.

Sorry.
