In SC they call them Palmetto Bugs.

They creep me out!

People also refer to them as Palmetto bugs, although I'm not sure if they are the same thing.

They are horrible, probably the worst bug here along with the mosquito.

To be honest, I am scared to death !! I am a french canadian and going to the US where I would not be able to speak french freaks me out ! Also the healthcare system there gives me the creeps ! The only thing I am looking foward to is to finally be with my love and that is all that matters ! :D

Im in similar conditions and health care is an issue. Lucky im not sick too often. But then on the good side there is no snow and i do get to see all the beautiful nature. One other thing that scares me a little more in the states is im in Florida and we have hurrican season !!! Its been alright up to now... Hope it stays that way.

My Fianceee and I joke aroound about this topic.

It refreshing reading responses from 1st world versus 3rd world countries.

For my Fiancee she said what she is looking forward to of course is unencumbered access to Gowons swingset  but she wants to verify my claim of 24/7 electricity, hot water from faucets.

I can't wait to take her to Disneyland, Vegas and camping.

Apart from living with my love, what am I excited about moving to Alaska? hmm my move will be a hard one in some aspects, arriving on 6th October just right when the winter kicks in.

I am though looking forward to seeing Alaska covered in pure white snow and spend cosy nights in with him :)

Luckily his family is from California so we will spend 3wks there for our wedding and travel around.

Can't wait for all of this!! :)

Can't forget about that INSANE duty fees we would have to pay on top of all that nonsense.

I´m excited about being able to go to the movies and see movies in English, at ALL theaters! In Spain they have a few select theaters that play movies in their original language, and they only show a few movies. (I will miss subtitles though.. even though I speak fluent english sometimes I miss what actors say and subtitles really help)

I´m excited about everything being in English!

Papa Johns pizza.

Efficiency... in everything. Spain is a bureucratic mess, everything is so confusing and takes forever.

Waiters actually being nice.

Good TV shows! (The daily show and colbert especially)

Thanksgiving

Barnes and Noble

Stand-up comedy clubs

American salaries (Not looking forward to such little vacation time though..)

Well I'm already here but for what I was looking forward to coming back here:

* Most of it is food related - KFC Bowl without cheese!, anything from Olive garden even-though my hubby has learned to cook most of my favorite recipes.

* Health care - it may sound strange coming from Sweden with free health care and missing the American way. But I sure missed being able to call and get an appointment an hour later. And getting the works

* Myself - it's weird but I find myself being more me, in Sweden we have a different mindset (jantelagen if anyone's heard of it) and I just like myself better in the US more outspoken and easy going. I stress less which is weird.

What I didn't miss is things like having to get a drivers license (I'm 32 and have never needed one) and to get it in a big city like Houston, ick!

>"real time" airing of different tv series ie ncis, csi, drop dead diva, suits, etc.

>being able to buy from amazon and actually get the stuff within the delivery time (minus johnny air special services)

>living in our own house. own rules with my son (we'll not live with mil). :luv:

>availability of all of stuff i read online.

>parks are everywhere!

not looking forward to: :help:

>winter.. im from the tropics, go figure.

>not being able to go around without a car.

>malls open at 12 on sundays

>alcohol is not sold on sundays (although not a big alcohol drinker)
