hello VJ my question is with regard to my place of birth (POB). I was born in 1978 in a little island called NAVAL, LEYTE. In 1992, by virtue of a law (R.A. 7160) Naval became an independent province and it's name was changed from NAVAL, LEYTE to NAVAL, BILIRAN. In my Birth certificate, passport and all other documents my POB is Naval, Leyte.

Now my question when I got my NBI clearance last week, the information I supplied in the application for NBI clearance under the Place of birth line is NAVAL ,LEYTE. However when my clearance was released I was surprised to see that my place of birth is now under the new name NAVAL, BILIRAN. I'm worried about this because in ALL my pertinent documents the POB is under the old name apart from this current NBI clearance. Will this cause any problem in my visa application? Should I replace a new NBI clearance and request that it be released under my old POB's name? or should I attach an affidavit referring to the discrepancy in my POB? and bring along a copy of the law R.A. 7160?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much!

I have had the same concern too since I was born in Culaba, Leyte now It's a province of Biliran. It had never been an issue during my visa interview. Tho in filing for paper work to the USCIS and USEM , follow what is in your live birth certificate...that is same way with the passport. With NBI clearance, i think the provinces or place just populate the infos by itself IMHO. Goodluck!

I can tell you that for US passports, the policy is to list the place of birth with the current place name. So, even if someone was born in the USSR it will now say Ukraine or whatever. I don't think your situation will be a problem, because the people at the embassy should know that place names can shift. I don't think you need to do anything, but if you want you can explain in a letter. Hopefully someone with PI-specific knowledge will come along. Good luck.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

YW...tho, sometime case my vary and knowing that there's different CO's interviewing applicants, IMHO its best for you to print a copy of the province history just incase such question MAY arise..its better to be pace ahead and be ready. That's what i did too :D
