Self Sponsorship doesn't require 3x Poverty Level

Got back from my Interview yesterday where I successfully sponsored myself as the affidavit of support with only £27k (~$42k) in the bank which is a lot less than what people are saying you need (3x 125% poverty level = ~$55k). No one said anything about it, no questions at all about it, they didn't bat an eye lid.

Hope this helps some other people out there.

The requirement coming through London (as you discovered) is not the same as most embassies/consulates.

London is quite lenient- many embassies don;t even allow self-sponsorship. Keep in mind the requirement for AOS will be 125%.

A person can sponsor themselves?! Really? is this for the K1 as well? I'm a USC and really worried about the sponsorship part, because I don't have a decent work history, am unlikely to make 3x the poverty line for a family of 4 (I have 2 kids) and I don't have relatives who do, either. However my fiance likely could cover this himself, though of course when he first gets to the US he'll be unemployed....is there a way to combine both our incomes? Or throw in some of his family's incomes as well? (They're all in the UK, though...)

You don;t need to make three times, just 125% of the poverty level; the three times is if you are using assets. His friends/ family in the UK cannot co-sponsor; his income won;t count as it will stop once he moves, but his assets can.
