I am just wondering, is it possible to get married by law in the first two weeks after arriving to the USA on a K1 visa? Is this looked down on for any reason or will it cause any problems? The ceremony would be later but we would like to get married and apply for AOS as soon as possible.

We got married 8 days after Alla arrived. No problems. You can get married as soon as she steps off the plane (some states have a 3 day delay on marriage licenses, check with your state)

As others have said, it's not a problem, but do make sure the state you are wanting to marry in will allow you to marry without a Social Security Number. Some states do require this as well as a mandatory waiting period, but on the whole, nope, no problems!

Get the SSN the day after she arrives. This is why the K-1 is eligible for an SSN right away. We were in the SS office the morning after Alla arrived, had her number in less than 48 hours and had her card in hand before we got married 8 days later. Her SSN is listed on our marriage license dated 8 days after her arrival.

..and while this is/was plausible, they're hardly ever that fast. I received mine 11 days after POE however I wouldn't really want to count on it getting to your mailbox that fast if you're planning a wedding with guests and everything that can't be postponed.

OP; look into the requirements where you live - call the country clerk's office. And if ssn is required, then you are free to marry in any state that does not require ssn, if you can't wait to get married before the first 10 days have passed.

K1 process, October 2010 > POE, July 2011

I-129F approved in 180 days from NOA1 date. (195 days from filing to NOA2 in hand)

Interview took 224 days from I-129F NOA1 date. (241 days from filing petition until visa in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until POE: 285 days

AOS process, December 2011 > July 2012

EAD/AP Approval took 51 days from NOA1 date to email update. (77 days from filing until EAD/AP in hand)

AOS Approval took 206 days from NOA1 date to email update. (231 days from filing until greencard in hand)

From filing I-129F petition until greencard in hand: 655 days
