Hi, I have been looking at some of the VJ timelines and there are people who's IR-1/CR-1 visas are approved within days or a couple of weeks. Does that sometimes actually happen or did all of these people mess up on their timelines? I am just curious.

If it's the I130 you are talking about, it is due to two reasons:

1) DCF - the couple are both living at the foreign country, so the case is approved within a week

2) Expedite - Emergencies, natural disaster, etc. Of course the USCIS would need proof of this.

I also have seen 2 couples who did not file DCF and did not apply for expidite...

One couple received NOA2 in 10 days....the other couple received NOA2 14 days.

Still a mystery how they received so soon....

I do not know about processing times these days.

But back when I filed, I got mine approved in 17 days. and many others below 30 days.

I guess its a combination of luck as well as the circusmtances of every case.

Ya, there seems to be a theoretical process called "auto-expedite" in which as long as the USC spouse is living overseas with the person they are sponsoring and their case gets transferred to CSC, their case can be auto-expedited. In reality, I don't believe it's an actual expedite per se, but it has the consequences of the expediting process in that the petition gets approved VERY quickly. See here for various people who were "auto-expedited."
