I had to have a background check for my present job. The company I am working for uses a third party to do background checks and, because I am working with children, they do a search internationally as well. I had been in the US for coming up to two months at that point and the first time they did it the check failed because there was an error with the formatting of my name on my SSN card. Once I had that corrected everything went through.

I just did my background check today! Due to the job I'll be working at (children) I was not asked for my SSN, I did offer it, however because I'm an international, they do a international check, based on my passport information..... Eg: name, D.O.B, etc: then after the clearance, they then use my SSN, which I just got after receiving my EAD a month ago :)

My employer will have all the available information prior to me even starting :)
