I-130 Approval. Q for anyone with know-how?

Hi guys, just a couple of Questions that we could use your wisdom with. Firstly we received our receipt today for our I-130 petition, seconds after receiving it, we used the receipt number to register online.

QUESTION:

the website update read:

On August 17, 2012, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283

Interpretation? Does it mean, this portion of our petition has DEFINATELY been approved? thus we get to await the written confirmation and begin the 2nd part of this process? (sorry if this is a no-brainer type question, just lack the confidence to take anything for granted at this point)

Secondly We clicked on the 'processing times' on the USCIS website after registering, making the assumption everyone does this to get a vague idea as to how long this whole process may take from start of petition to final step where you get denied or receive a VISA in the post.

Anyway, we are with the California Service Center and it advises "5 months"

QUESTION:

Does this infact mean what we thought it did, that they 'estimate' 5months for the whole thing? or does it mean something else?

As per always, your advice / guidance / wisdom is greatly appreciated.

Faithfully yours!

Kelnjohn :)

hi there congrats for your approval, for the processing time it is an estimation nothing is really exact either you get it earlier or later than 5 months and since csc is moving really fast that is why your petition was adjudicated before the 5 months was over :) as for your question on what to do next you might wanna check out the guide here on vj ill post the link for you congrats and good luck for the rest of the journey :)

USCIS estimates processing time of 5 months within their agency. If it gets processed earlier than 5 months then they are within their promised processing time of 5 months. From their agency, it goes to the NVC in New Hampshire and it normally gets processed within 2 months. Count another 2 months of processing by the Embassy where your petition would go to and that's a total of 9 months processing time altogether. Sometimes you get lucky and everything gets processed in less than 9 months. Active duty military has priority, and some other emergencies.

thanks so much for the valuable input Ryro, and the congratulations. I figured it wouldnt be an exact science, I guess i just needed confirmation because in all my VJ research of others timelines, I have never seen I-130 filing to I-130 Approval in such a short time, I mean they got the petition on the 3rd of August, and on the 17th its approved? it just didnt add up. Given MOST timelines say 90days / I've seen 289 days? It was just incredibly bizarre (to me)ANYWAY thank you again - you guys are awesome

Well that certainly answers what I can likely expect moving forward. Thanks so much for your input Joshuaching, it means a great deal. :)

Well, congrats on your speedy approval!

Thanks memphis, although because I have never seen the approvals in that kind of time before, we are dubious about the response thinking perhaps we misinterpreted something. :/

Time will tell?

Thanks again :)
