Sponsoring father-in-law tourist visa

Hi,

I want to sponsor my father-in-law to come to the US for six months but not sure where to start. Can you guys give me some advices?

There is nothing that you can do. He goes and applies for a tourist visa on his own. Shows strong ties to home.

Aside from showing strong ties to Vietnam and the intention returning back to VN after the visit, it's wise to ask for only a short visit, ie. 1 month to max 3 months. This is especially true if this is his first time applying for a tourist Visa. Nobody gonna believe him if he tells them he's willing to leave his biz in VN for 6 months and go on vacation somewhere half around the world.

Hi Tuan,

We have applied tourist visa for my father travel to U.S in July 2012. Firstly, we wrote invitation letter for my father, then I filled out DS 160 form on U.S consulate site, made an interview appointment date for my father, and we printed out the confirmation of DS 160 and interview appointment.

After that, we filled out I-134 for sponsor and prepared some docs like tax return, W2, U. S citizen of my husband, bank acc., paycheck, employment verification.

We sent all this stuffs to VN. So my father only paid visa fee 160US$ at Citibank and waited for his interview date.

On interview date, my father was presented at U.S consulate with my sister (they let her in). CO just took my father passport and 2 receipts of visa fee (pink and yellow) and he didn't look any docs that my father brought with him, then asked my father 4 questions:

1. How long are you going to travel U.S?

2. Where do we live?

3. Where does my husband do?

4. When did I leave VN?

That's it. My father got visa after 3 days by EMS. Visa issued for a year.
