Hi All,

I'm wondering about vaccinations. Some of my paperwork I was unable to obtain so I don't have all of my records. I wanted to know if you require booster shots or new vaccinations should you have them done prior to going to your medical so you can show the panel physician you've had them, or the panel physician will advise you what you need to do etc?

Thanks! :)

On drcheema.ca the new medical doctor for the Vancouver Consulate lists the vaccines you need. You will need to have these BEFORE your appointment as far as I know. Depending on your age different vaccines are required. If you aren't sure if you've had some, you can get bloodwork done to show that you are immune (for example, the measles, mumps & rubella shot, and varicella aka chicken pox).

Oh another note - the old medical site (Woking) said the TDap vaccination had to be current within two years and they wouldn't accept you without it. I am not sure if Dr. Cheema is the same but didn't want to take any chances. I had it as a child but recently got the shot again so it would be current. My family doctor recommended not getting vaccines to close too each other and to spread them out - so it takes a bit of planning in advance.

When you go in for your medical, they will do a blood test anyway and give you any vaccines you still need (NB March-Oct is flu season so you will need to get the flu vac if your medical falls in that period) - btw, they do charge for this. Bring any vaccination records you have - most medical centres will give you a printout - i got my gp to sign it too.

This is not necessary at this point but I figured I may as well do it here and get the medicare subsidy too:

if you go on the US Immigration website, you can get a list of all the vaccinations that are required when you do your AOS - I brought that list to my doctor, we went through my medical records and he gave me the ones that i needed a booster for. From what i understand, all the vaccination records will go on the official form that gets sent off to the consulate and included on your file. Try to get a copy of it for later if they will give it to you.

hope this helps.

I'm going for my medical 1 Nov :) will find out more then (give the medical centre a call - they are very helpful).

all the best
