The thing is, I haven't really checked out how it will affect my tax status if I "resign" from my town. I will still have to do the tax report for this year, no matter what. I thought I might just hand it in for the time till I left, but maybe there is really a possibility to be taxed in Germany even though I am living in the States already. I will keep my German bank account, but I won't be living in Germany anymore and I won't be registered as someone who is living in Germany anymore. I would be taxed like every other German if I would leave for just a couple of months. Because then I would still be registered in Germany. With the k1, nope. I also will have to unregister in order to end my cell phone contract and stuff like that, so not unregistering is not an option.

Having lived in Germany many years, I know a German National is taxed on world wide income. So is your pay goes to a German bank account you are being paid in Germany and it does not concern the States yet. Check with your tax person he will know. I think as long as you are not taking a job away from an American in the US and not drawing pay from a company in the US it does not concern the US.

Good luck, Ron

Thanks to you as well, Ron!

That's what I am planning to do - going to talk to a tax person. I tried to find some answers on the taxation specifics and it's all just bureaucracy blabla to me :lol: I will have to find out how long I can keep my tax number and stuff like that. I hope he can help :)

Quite a number of us have continued to work for our former employers following our moves to the US. The EAD is just for US-based employers. You claim the income in both the US and Germany but there is a tax treaty so you aren't taxed twice for the same income. Here is the link:

Moving from K-1 Process to the Work Forum.

Thanks a bunch, Krikit, also for moving it to the Work forum ;) I've read something about this treaty as well. Now I have a start point if I need more detailed info on that topic. This forum is so helpful with stuff like that. I appreciate everyone's input
