Can't work even with work authorization

Of course you can work with a work permit. What is the point, otherwise?

As far as DL, most states allow you to get a DL with an EAD, but not all. How you get to work is different from ability to work, and USCIS can't guarantee your mode of transport to work :) What state are you in?

Exactly! I've been at the same situation. Before applying for AOS, I had EAD through Opt. My Maryland DL had expired and I need one for Virginia (Where we live now after getting married). Guess what? Virginia does not accept the EAD as a sufficient document to prove legal permanence. I went to the Department of Motorvehicles TWICE with my EAD (at the time it was a valid one through opt. I have applied under family category now) and I could not have my drivers license.

So it does depend on each state.

And, I totally understand Ateneaalexander. I live in the suburbs where there's no train and no buses. I have nothing to do but wait for the Green Card before getting a Driver's license and being able to work again...

Hang in there sistah!

We're in Texas and here you can get a Driver's Lisence Learner's permit and take the driving test as long as you're in status. if you have the EAD they'll issue you a Texas DL that expires the same date the EAD expires.

True, but by then you will have GC (which will only be valid for the duration of the GC) and can extend the DL. EAD is valid for 1 year. Get you DL asap and just renew when the GC comes in

I replied to a member who stated that public transportation is available to everyone....."problem solved"

I was just making the point that public transportation is not available to everyone...

Then you "cut me down as inferior".....as did the person who said, "get a horse".

Ok....no problem. and by the way we do have a beautiful mare, but we don't live in the wild, wild west. So we are not allowed to park our horse in the parking lot.

Stop with the nonsense. I'm certain OP has entertained all of these choices.

The debate is about drivers license, not means of transportation.

I'm just surprised you didn't suggest she borrows a broom from a witch.

Hello everyone! I got my work authorization card last week and I am anxious to start working and do something besides staying home but I read on here that even with a work permit can't work or apply for driver's license wich sucks because if I get a job I dont have anybody to take me :/ . I'll appreciate a clear answer. Thank you.

not have anyone to take you ?

where is your husband?

he can certainly take you with you, when he drives into work, drop you off at a temporary agency to apply ..

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

My wife got her driver's license in Ga with her EAD and current passport. One of the forms used to prove where she lived was the I-797c that we received for AOS application.

I know each state is a little different. But with EAD, that proves you are here legally. Double check with Dept of Motor Vehicle website for your state for Alien resident requirements.

:time: with EAD info

Hey I have a question I just got my I-797C(NOA) could I get a license with that I'm here in Georgia to please help me I would appreciate it.

I think if you look at the site / view the link you can probably get this done, http://www.in.gov/bmv/2766.htm. If you still are unsure get everything together you think they want and go down and try it.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.
