Hello Friends,

I have a question regarding marriage certificate to be sent with DS230. I paid the IV bill yesterday and once it says paid I have to send the DS230 package but I have the notarized true copy of the marriage certificate and not the original. My wife has the original in India as she needs it for PCC etc.

When I called NVC they said that you can either send the original or a copy certified by the government agency that gives the marriage certificate. My wife checked in Mumbai to get certified copy but they said they do not issue it. They can only give duplicate copy but she has to file FIR etc for it which will take lot of time.

I spoke to few of my friends and they said they sent the notarized copy with DS230 and then took the original copy with them during interview. I'm confused. Please help as this is urgent.

Thanks.

NVC is seriously confusing.

your friends are right about notarized copy.

my brother's wife sent notarized true copy marriage certificate to NVC. They accepted that and her case completed on aug 13th 2012. She kept original for her upcoming interview.

My husband sent true copy marriage certificate to NVC without notarizing, they still accepted. But my cousin's wife sent true copy marriage certificate and they ask for certified copy (notarized true copy) or original marriage certificate.

Thanks deeee. So you are saying that notarized copy from a local notary will work? It has a seal of Govt of India notary.

Also, in case of your cousin's wife, how much did it delay the process as she had to send the original or certified copy later.

yes they will accept that as far as i know.

it delay her 2 weeks because 4 days to receive at NVC from india and then few more days for the document to review. she sent in certified copy.

If you do decide to send original then make sure you send one extra copy of your marriage certificate to NVC, so they can return the original certificate at interview to your wife.

:)
