I'm toying with the idea of meeting and retreiving my Fiancee at Houston (non stop flight from Lagos), and then do a leisurely 3 day road trip back to Los Angeles.

So is there any requirement that her POE must be close to her final destination?

We are actually planning on flying into LA then visiting Disneyland (she may be more excited about this than meeting me) stop in Las Vegas to see if that is where we may want to have wedding, stop in southern Utah to meet my parents and then north to home. Taking about a week to do it.

Hope your trip goes great!

Great plan.Excellent. My lil Bro works for Disney so I get in for free. I can't wait till she experience that.

I'm in Pasadena (30 miles North of Disney) so just know you have a VJer nearby just in case.

I think that is an excellent idea! We are going to fly into New York but I am planning a road trip soon after to drive down to Florida. I think its an excellent idea. I am actually thinking if I am not in a rush to come back to work I might just fly into Miami and road trip it back. I think I might steal your idea. hahaha But overall great idea. I plan to keep my soon to by hubby busy too! I am so scared he'll get bored and I think you planning this trip and trying to keep her busy and going around site seeing before having kids is an absolutely fantastic idea! Bc after kids you guys won't have much couples time. haha I told the same thing to my fiance. I said no kids until we are settled and have done and seen almost everything we've wanted too. haha Great idea and congrats!!!!!!!

I'm at the office looking down on Colorado Boulevard and enjoying the California summer "scenery" in all it's glory.

PS: Congrats on Mars landing. I went to JPL open house up the street when they were assembling Curiosity. And won't it be funny if we're in the same building

Great memory...

One year into our relationship we drove his car (a convertable) down from Vancouver to So Cal. It took us 3 days and included a stop in the Napa Valley and a drive down the Big Sur Coast. I tell people that's when I knew I was in love with him. It was a wonderful trip!

I say go for it!

May 2008: Met on the Carnival Paradise
2008-2012: 20 Cruises, 8 vacations, many wonderful moments
May 2012: Engaged!

I plan on heading North on I-45 to Dallas, then North on I-287 to cut accross to I-40 and then head West. Then North on I-93 into Vegas, then later I-15 South into LA.
In 2003, while still single, I took a getaway vacation -- flew into Amarillo, took U.S. 287 to Dumas and U.S 87 west through Dalhart to Clayton, NM (overnight), then east directly through the Oklahoma panhandle to the next civilization (plus many bored constables) in Guymon, then south on U.S. 83 all the way to Childress and back up 287 to Amarillo. Except for the bored constables and a displeased cat when I got home, very relaxing.
Apologies about the timeline but I have my reasons.
Respected, si man.
We plan on doing lot's of sight seeing before little Gowons come into our lives.
This is some of the sagest wisdom ever, si man. I wouldn't trade little Mini-Bone (now 19 mo. old) for anything, no man, but children will absolutely change your schedule, sigh man.
I've only been to California, Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Texas. This is a crying shame.
You could have done far worse, si man. In fact, if you're flexible on your route, very strongly consider taking I-10 or U.S. 90 west through San Antonio to Uvalde, then head north on U.S. 83. Garner State Park, the Frio River, et al. are so beautiful in non-winter that they sincerely defy description. She'll love it, guaranteed. If you can't do it now, you must take this trip sometime in your lives, si man. Edited by TBoneTX

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
