gimme a question thats answerable.

Okay, what is the rationale for the GOPs absolute anti-abortion platform? While I understand that the party wishes to take a stance against abortion, why does the party feel it appropriate not to provide for obviously required exceptions - such as the exception in the case of rape or incest or the health and life of the mother?

i honestly do not know. the exceptions you mention are common sense. i'm quite sure those and most likely more exceptions would be included in any legislation they attempted to put forth regarding abortion.

You would think they were common sense. Allowing such exceptions would greatly upset Mississippi, the most conservative state in the nation. Republicans are trying to close the only abortion clinic in the state.

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant ( R), in defending his decision to sign a bill that could shut down Mississippi's only abortion clinic, told conservative radio host Tony Perkins on Tuesday that Democrats' "one mission in life is to abort children."
"We passed that bill and I think you'll see other states follow, and when that happens, at least these fly-in abortionists are going to be regulated under the state laws of the Medical Procedures Act here in the state of Mississippi as they should be across the nation," he said.

The bill in question, HB 1390, requires that all physicians who perform abortions in Mississippi have admitting privileges at the local hospital and be board certified in obstetrics and gynecology.

While all of the physicians at the one clinic in the state are currently board certified OB-GYNs, only one of them has admitting privileges at a local hospital. The other two physicians can't get privileges because they live out of state, and the owner of the clinic has said it can't operate with only one doctor on staff.

Why do they live out of state? Because they are constantly threatened by RWNJ's.

The "common sense" exceptions are not common sense to one Paul Ryan and many other Republicans who have pushed and voted for legislation to outlaw abortions even in the case of rape and incest. The record doesn't support what you stipulate.

So why is Scott Brown apparently concerned about it?

Scott Brown is concerned because he is a pro-choice Republican. The language doesn't leave any room for Republicans like Scott Brown. That's an issue if you are running for re-election in Massachusetts. Mitt Romney was a pro-choice Republican when running for the US Senate in that state back in the 90's and when running for governor 10 years ago. His stance on the issue has since "devolved".

This is not common sense, yet this is the view of republicans here.

When the bill passed in April, Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant heralded it as “the first step” to making Mississippi the first abortion-free state. Bryant accused the bill’s Democratic opponents of having one goal: “to abort children.”

“Their one mission in life is to abort children, is to kill children in the womb,” Bryant told conservative radio host Tony Perkins in April.

they're pushing those through the house where the have a partisan rubber stamp, knowing its dead the second it hits the senate. those bills are nothing but theatre. (same as the ones being passed in republican controlled state governments) anyone seriously trying to make changes to abortion law knows those exceptions MUST be included.

Why is that not the case in Mississippi then? There are no exceptions to the rule, the governor wants the state to be the first "abortion-free" state.

its theatre. even if they passed laws making mississippi an abortion free state, the first lawsuit filed will make it history. the scotus has already decided the issue. rowe vs. wade.

I agree, it is theatre. Thankfully a federal judge temporarily overruled the law. It is such a waste of money, if only they were interested in creating jobs instead. :(

Keep telling yourself that. Or face reality.

Pure, sheer and unadulterated pandering...

To whom, though? 3 out 4 Americans do not support this radical, reactionary nonsense. Which is why they don't want to talk about Akin or the issue that he surfaced.

ask scott brown

I think you need to realise that what you may see as common sense, may not be what is common sense to those much closer to what is going on. If some Republicans have reservations about the abortion platform the party wants to endorse, I'd say that's probably more insightful into the truth than your gut instinct.
