OPT year. Starting my own business?

I am on my OPT year and want to be self-employed. I just received my Social Security card, which states: "valid for work only with DHS Authorization".

I want to start my own business in Los Angeles, CA. Can I apply for DBA and business licenses with this Social Security card?

Anybody have any more information on this topic?

No you can't. The SSN is restricted to your OPT work place.

OPT is not for you to start business in US.

OPT is Optional Practical Training ..... if you think you are good enough and you can start your own business why do you need OPT?

Yes, you can be on OPT and start your own business.

Keep in mind that you will have to leave when your OPT expires unless you have another means to stay in the US. This may make it hard to get a new business off the ground when you have a one year time limit.
