I know its a legit site but can you please look at what you circle. DS-160 has nothing to do with a K1 Visa. They can schedule their own. I guanatee you you were not interactive talking to the embassy directly.

this is from the embassies website. Please let us know what you find. I would love to be corrected and people be able to scheduke their own appointment. I just find it odd that you are the only person who has mentioned you can schedule your own interview.

Fiance/Fiancee visas (K1s, K3s)

If your K1 or K3 petition has been approved by the Department of Homeland Security and you have received notification from the National Visa Center that your petition is on its way to post, you should download and complete the following application. The U.S. Consulate General in Lagos will contact you to schedule your appointment. If you have questions on your appointment date, you should email <A href="mailto:LagosIV@state.gov">LagosIV@state.gov. Appointments will be scheduled within four months of the approval date listed on your documentation from the Department of Homeland Security. [Click to open "Interview Preparatory Packet (K1, K3)" PDF 357KB]

I did not circle DS-160 and I did not list a DS-160 on the list fo forms that I previously provided.

As far as being the only one to try to figure this out, well "I'm Gowon" (you have to be a Seinfeld fan and know Kramer to get this joke)

This is ABSOLUTELY NOT for K1..................... DS-160 is not needed for K1

This the website am used too though for Nigerians

See above.

When I am all done, I intend to write the process from a K1 perspective for a Nigerian. Like a give back to the community sort of a thing. I think once folks realise that a K1 is a blend visa (immigrant vs non immigrant) but that it's also vastly different from a IR1/CR1 then it's easier.

I am in IT and tend to troll immigration websites, blogs and most importantly websites based in Nigeria. Those Guys are there and know this stuff.

Abeg nobody dey argue with you, and no be every naija person dey argue.......... what i just posted is a reply from Lagos consulate.........

Q4: When will I get an appointment?"

A: If NVC sent you a letter stating that your file is complete and has been sent to Lagos for scheduling, please wait for your appointment letter to be sent to you. This can take several months, depending on the type of immigrant visa filed. You can expect to receive this appointment letter several weeks before your appointment. If the original documents were sent to NVC, please remember to bring photocopies of all documents, including birth, marriage, divorce certificates, etc. to your appointment.

If your inquiry concerns an immigrant visa case in which the I-130 petition was filed in the United States, and it has not been scheduled for an appointment, please send your inquiry directly to the National Visa Center. To contact NVC, please email: NVCInquiry@state.gov. If you have been informed by USCIS that your petition has been approved and forwarded to the Department of State, please contact NVC directly. If you were selected for the Diversity Visa lottery, please contact the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) for your appointment date at: KCCDV@state.gov

Folks, please see my previous disclaimer, this is what "I" am doing and like stated I do like running with scissors.

Visa.png

The website is linked off of The United States Embassy website. Possibly they are a contract company but they are fully vetted by the State Department. All the research that I have personally done leads me to belive that yes I can schedule my own appointment for a K1 visa, the proof this morning was just to show what "I" already know. I have also emailed the embassy.

Like I told OP she should check with others but this is what I am doing.

PS: The most confusing thing to me is that their is a higher percentage of IR1/CR1 in Nigeria, they have different paths and that confused me greatly but I am all clear now.

Good luck to all of us regardless of what path we take. I just need that letter from them so I can do the medical.

Does that not say DS-160. I was just siting dear what you posted earlier. Your new post is DS-156. Thats new. But like I said when you schedule that interview please let us know okay. Not even NVC or the US Government knows this secret you and your IT friends shave found..

Gowon offers no apologies for expanding his immigration research beyond VJ.

Just to clarify for others in the future, it is item #3 ONLY that I circled and I did not at any time suggest that K1 requires a DS-160.

I only have one piece of advice for you.

Don't get sidetracked by the IR1/CR1 track, ours, K1 is totally different so don't let it confuse you. (Majority of petitions on VJ for Nigeria are IR1/CR1)

Above all, read and do research and don't trust just one source (I only quote and post from official US Government websites).

I'll continue to share the information that I find but I usually close my posts with YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary) biggrin.gif

Thanks again for the advice and sharing all this information.....please explain this Way Bill....totally clueless......Thanks

The waybill is something that another user on here found to track our petitions from NVC (National Visa Center) to the Lagos Embassy. A fatanstic piece of dectective work really. uch kudos to "TrueJourney (sp)".

So after you submit your I-129F to Texas service center, you can track it by when your payment has been cashed.

Then it get's sent to either Vermont or California at USCIS, i fyou create a profile at USCIS website you can monitor the activity of the processing there adn know when it has been approved. I fyou fill out an optional form they can also email and SMS you when it is either approved or they need more information.

When it is approved, USCIS sents the petition package to National VIsa Center. For us as K1, they do not do anything other than to package the petition and ship it off to the Embassy. IR1/CR/1 gets more interaction at NVC so that was a point of confusion for me in the beginning. In actuality NVC may be doing some work behing the scene work on our petition but nothing that we K1s have to worry about.

So after you get this waybill number (by going to DHL.Com website), you can then track your petition from NVC to Lagos Embassy and you will know when exactly your petition gets to the Embassy.

For example our petition got there today and so for sure tomorrow they should have it in their system.

I'm working on a flowchart that I will post later that will make it hopefully more clearer.

Now that OP and I know that our petitiion is in Lagos she can wait for the Embassy to send her a letter with a the next set of forms and I think an interview date or alternatively like I am doing, I have prepared all those forms ahead of time, shipped them to my Fiancee and she is ready if I am successful in self setting an appointment date. I beleive that if I am successful that I will get a letter confirming that and we can take that to get the medical. Medical needs a letter from the Embassy as far as I am aware.

I hope that I did not make it more confusing than it really is.
