Hi:

I am a US Citizen filing for my Jamaican hubby. We just mailed the DS230 form to NVC, now I am wondering how long before we can get an interview date.

Since I filed for him in February, I was hoping that the process would take about 9 months, but based on my experience thus far I am anticipating that he'll get his interview letter in December and have the initial interview in January. Does this make sense??

I am also planning on going to the interview with him for support, will this make our case stronger or it doesn't really matter?

Guys I would really appreciate your feedback.

Thanks you :)

Predicting timelines is a "crapshoot". Some embassies do not allow the petitioner to attend the interview but if yours does it certainly will not hurt your case.

YMMV

Thanks! that was quick. At the time that I filed for him, the CO at USCIS told me it shouldn't take more than 9 months also. I do understand what you are saying about predicting the timelines, and know they vary from case to case, but I am just dying to get pass this experience :(

I'm still a bit confused. Have you been approved? Has your file been sent to NVC? The DS-230 comes in Packet #3 which you get after the file has been sent to Kingston.....

Maybe if you give us a bit more information we can help....

Sorry if I am confsuing don't mean to. Based on my experience I received a copy of this form http://foia.state.gov/FORMS/visa/ds0230.pdf which my hubby had to fill out and sign an then mail it back to NVC.

I may have confused you because I didn't specifically say Form DS-230 Part 1. I am pretty sure you have to send this in before the packet is to sent to Kingston for final processing.

I hope I clear that up for you :)

You may want to use the VJ timelines to give you an idea, just select advance view and filter for Jamaica, look at both K-3 and K-1 to get a bigger picture.

I am seeing times there from 1 to 4 months for Packet 3 to interview.

I wish everyone would fill out and use the timelines.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Thanks YuAndDan, but how would the k-3 & k-1 classifications timeline assist me? Don't they have timelines for CR-1s? I am new to the board and I am still trying to navigate it.

If they have timelines for CR-1s can you provide the link for me please?

Well -- you never said you were doing a CR-1. Maybe you should post this question in the CR-1 forum.....as of right now, there is only one person (with Jamaican ties) who "might" be doing the CR-1.

See, you need to be more specific or fill in your timeline so we can help you.

Look above -- at the top of THIS forum page you will see something entitled "Yardies, at home and a farrin" -- that is where all the Jamaicans are. Post this question in that thread.

Sorry, I would be of more help if I could.

She *did* say "hubby" right in the first sentance; no need to upbraid. :)

Of course the answer is still "who knows"!

Susanwill, I'd think that you attending the interview would help your husband's case. There are, and have been, Immigrant Visa applicants thru K-town. Poke around in the statistics stuff at the top links and you may get a better idea of DS-230 (the visa application)--->interview date.

But you did make me curious... how is there a CO at USCIS???

Welcome Susanwill. I think you should definitely plan to attend the interview w/your husband esp in KIN. Based on other experiences whether it is the K1, K3, or CR route it is recommended b/c the CO will give your SO a hard time if not.

The timeline is a different story and I'm not sure how long it will take to reach KIN. I have heard it takes quite some time so most do the K3.

Hey Thanks, I've been browsing around and came to the conclusion that the waiting period can take anywhere from 7 months - 1 year.

That was a typo, I meant to say CS (Customer Service Rep) at USCIS. Been eating, sleeping and drinking this stuff since Feb. 06, I'm all USCIS/NVC worn out. :help:

BTW is the true that since I'm the agent, NVC will male the completed documents to Kingston, and then Kingston will mail the appointment letter and any followup documentation back to me? Will my husband not get a copy of the letter in the mail from kingston? Just don't seem to make sense that the applicant wouldn't get a copy of the letter also.

Thanks!! You've cleared up quite a bit for me also. Appreciate it  I read the embassy info and found out that spouses are allowed during the interview with applicants at the Consulate in Kingston, I wasn't prepared to go, but now I know I'll be there God's willing.

I also was thinking that spousal support shows that the marriage is real and not a fly by night relationship to get a visa. PLUS I'll make a mini vacation out of it, any excuse to home I'll take it :D

Please fill in your timeline so we can see how your case is going.

Please feel free to write messages in the yardies thread.

I am in the same process as you filling for my husband.

I am using James Shortcuts at this time to do the DS3032 form. I was informed that you can even email that form was your case number is assigned. Then use the shortcuts if you want to cut time. I have all the paper work filled out for us until the interview.

I am estimating that it will be about 4 months until your interview. But I really need to see a time line form you to confrim this estimation.

There is more about James short cuts and were to find them in the yardies thread.

Yes going with your hubby for support is great. Many people have gone and could share there experiences with you. There are 4 interviews coming up in the next two weeks.

All the best on your Journey
