Hey everyone,

Just got my first NOA (!!) back and am working on filling out the DS-230/OF-169 forms. I'm filing out of Guangzhou, China for my Chinese wife.

In the packet, they list police certificates as one of the required forms. I was wondering if anyone here had any experience acquiring said certificates from Chinese or other foreign authorities? My wife's parents went to their local police station and they said that they needed a direct request from the US Embassy, which seems strange. Has anyone else done this?

Thanks ahead of time for any help or advice!

Zhen

Moving from IR-1/CR-1 Process & Procedures to China regional forum; topic is about Chinese civil documentation.

When my wife obtained her documents, she did not need any "direct request" from the US Embassy or any US Consulate.

Your wife (or her parents if they are obtaining the documents for her) will need to obtain them from the Notarial Office (公证处)where their household registration (hukou {户口}) is located. The Notarial Documents are often referred to as "White Books" on VJ and CFL.

My wife, in Guangzhou, just got her police certificate. There was no request needed from the US Embassy. She is in the Yue Xiu district, don't think it should be different in yours.

here's a longish thread about getting the white books (The police clearance certificate is one of three)

white books - http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/228853-notarial-birth-certificate/

Ignore the bickering, there be gold in there, including some chinese stuff to copy/paste to yer lass.

FWIW, the 'local' police office is usually not the right one. There's a 'district' or 'county' office (depending on the size of the locale) that's much larger than the local office, and knows exactly how to get it done.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU WAIT on the PCC until you have a casefile # at NVC. Then when she gets it, she can scan it and the other two white books, send off with the signed DS-230 via EMAIL for NVC Electronic Processing.

Also, the OF-169 is useful to study, but it's only specific for DCF-d casefiles, where the I-130 is filed into BeiJing, Shanghai, Chengdu or Guangzhou. I'm betting you filed into a lockbox address in the USA, so the OF-169 does NOT apply to you and her.

---

and finally, ignore what I wrote about NVC and EP - yer a DCF'd casefile type.

Ya know, you can find the answer to your question with the advanced search tool, when using a PC? Ditch the handphone, come back later on a PC, and try again.
