Or maybe, in this election cycle, the current administration is using this issue, however meritorious, to deflect from how it's stance on Syria has allowed 20,000 Syrians to be killed in the unrest there, and now supporters of the Morsi regime in Egypt, that this administration professes to support, have begun crucifying objectors there.

My comments are directed solely toward pointing out this administration's blatant attempts at distraction from its woeful Middle East policy generally, by diverting attention away from its policy failures.

I would think things are still in flux after the fall of the Ottoman Empire. Several decades of deliberate neglect during European colonial rule, and finally the creation of a belligerent military state in the heart of the Arab world might have something to do with it

I agree it's about time However, I think "extremist" is the more proper term for describing these groups. Being "radical" is not necessarily a bad thing - the civil rights movement was radical; so was the "women's liberation" movement. Recognizing problems in a society and want to change that society is usually a good thing.

Yes indeed. The problems of the modern era began after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, with several European powers slicing up the area for their own interests without much regard for historical divisions, and selecting dictator-kings from certain tribal groups to rule over other tribal groups and enforce policies that benefited the colonial rulers.

But, it won't be a Jewish state if the status quo is maintained much longer. Much like S.A., eventually the Palestinians will have to join the Israeli nation at large, and with their superior numbers, they will take control of the government.
