So, now I am being asked to show off my humanitarian credentials in order to validate my opinion.

That's about the most ridiculous thing I have read so far.

Refusing to use the spellchick!

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

Well, when you're sat here telling all of us that we should be helping more, it's not too far fetched to ask what your actions, not your words, are!

I am not telling you to do anything. I am asking you to consider the possibility that a wall etc is nothing more than a sticking plaster over an absess. looks very nice on the outside, but in practice it just disguises the real issues.

You asked me what I would do in a given scenario, and I have answered. The fact that you don't like the answer is frankly not my problem.

I am also a little tired of having to re-itterate time after time that I don't think America per se is ######. A cute generalisation, but it's just plain wrong.

Number one, I have never advocated a wall. In fact I have publicly said a wall is not the answer. I have said so in a thread in which you have posted, therefore you had a perfect opportunity to read it. You either didn't, or you're confusing me with someone else.

Number two, it's not that I don't like your answers, rather I don't believe them. Yeah, yeah, 'who am I to believe or disbelieve them?' but the end result is the same. To say that you'd be more understanding and not upset if there were a stranger in your home doesn't quite fit with the common sense reaction that this situation would normally evoke, imo. I propose you wouldn't be wonderfully accomodating to a stranger in your house. I propse you wouldn't say 'hey how can I help you and until that time, help yourself to whatever you need?' No, sir/maam, I call bullsh!t.

Especially not as a parent of a child.

I think it's a lil too 'pie in the sky' idealism if you ask me. Easy to say, and to tell others what to do to prove your compassion and how much more evolved you are as a 'civilized person' So naturally, since you're all 'America should do this and do that' I'm asking what you've done I'm callin you out. Not what you've toldothers to do while you're busy patting yourself on the back for not being so 'consumerist/shallow/narrow minded/ nimbistic/etc' as the rest of American society. Not what you're dictating while behind a computer screen, or what you think the solution is in 'a perfect world', what you've actually done.

You don't wanna answer? Hah, that's ok...I completely understand. I wasn't really expecting one anyway ;)

I gave up a day or two ago with trying to argue with PH. It's definetly not that because she's a good debator (which she isn't), she just avoids answering and then starts spewing statistics (available at heavily liberal websites) and then switches topics when backed in a corner...So, in my opinion, she has no argument but to propose idealistic solutions that no reasonable person could agree with. She also has managed to spew hate about America and then try to re-write what she wrote and say she doesn't mean that....Drugs!!! What they are doing to America these days......

BTW LisaD, I think you're the best!!!!!!!!! Love the pounding you are administering...(so this is what a fresh can of woopass looks like???)

So, because I have a different point of view than yours, I'm on drugs, unreasonable, probabably a 'liberal' and an unfit parent? Brilliant deductions, well done.

I don't believe there has been any actual name calling going on either.

I am assuming that Lisa's aim was to invalidate my argument by suggesting that because I am a parent, I should be more possesive of my worldly goods.

To be honest, although I can argue what I would like to do in a given situation, I can't say what I would actually do because I haven't been ever been faced with a homeless person wishing to occupy my home.

I would like to think that I would be at least considerate of his reasons for being there. All of these analogies are flawed anyway, regardless of what I would do.

That being said, I do not appologise for my humanistic views. They are what they are, regardless of whether they smack of 'pie in the sky' to someone else.

Not of your wordly goods, of your personal space. And I do happen to think you would be, faced in that situation.

I'm only clarifying for clarity's sake since there's been some confusion...I'm not trying to say parents are materialistic

Why are you "living in paradise" when there are homeless people in need of "aid and succur" in the UK?

Actually as parent, arn't you concerned with the safety of your children when you are opening your home to strangers in need? I think THAT was the point Lisa was making.

IK HOU VAN JOU, MARK

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!
