it's ok, we'll watch you dance and dodge. when are you going to prove that americans building walls and laying mines gives the us a bad name around the world?

People around the world don't like walls. They like mines even less.

I really think we should stay out of the PLEASING PEOPLE business! them not liking mines is directly related to getting their A$$ blown up! But the fact of the matter is, it would shut down all traffic through the border to just a trickle!

You're very funny.

Of course I can't go out and produce statistics just like that. However, I don't think it's rocket science to realise that bullying tacktics and isolationist policies are going to increase hostility to the US by other nations.

Oh, and some interseting statistical analysis on the US public's view on Immigration can be found here:

http://people-press.org/reports/display.php3?ReportID=274

so you are just running off at the mouth without any evidence to back up your statements

You cannot blame nafta... Mexico was actually in the best position to benefit from this.. Their politicians simply do not know what they are doing therefore their country is in a state of poverty..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

Lets PRETEND Hibiscus, Me and ten of my buddies open the gate to your front yard and begin a good ol game of badmitton, what you gonna do Hmmmmmmmmmmm let us play? or tell us to leave and get OFF your property! Im sure you would be running out there with a cold six pack asking if you could play!

You can beat this drum all you like, the fact is if there was more thought put into resolving problems than closing doors the world would be a better place.

How about this, you and your buddies came along and start playing in my front yard and instead of my losing my temper and ordering you off my property, I ask you why you need to play there in the first place. Maybe then a more permanant solution might be reached.

Doubt you'd feel the same if you came home to find a homeless person in your bed ;)

So since you glossed over this (unless I missed your answer)...what WOULD you do if there was a homeless man in your bed when you came home from work? Please advise.

Many countries have strict quarantine rules..

Actually the medical condition of illegal immigrants is probably another issue to consider. How many diseases are they introducing into the country? Everyone else has to go through medical checks to enter..

if they didn't have nafta the US could just tax the ###### out of Mexican imports.. Then what, nothing would get through..

Mexico's financial status is based on Mexican issues such as corruption, lack of leadership and anti-Americanism, to say the least.. I bet you if any other country from Europe or Asia was in Mexico's place on the map, below America, they would have a very high standard of living..

###### man the country is next door neighbors to a 300 million people consumer driven nation... If a nation cannot make money having that advantage, I rest my case..

I would sincerely hope that if the homeless person was looking for aid and succour, I would at the very least offer same. (I can only imagine that being the reason I would discover a 'homeless person' in my bed.)

However, I am not really sure what you are trying to prove by continuing with this ananlogy. Are you trying to find out just when I would get the gun out and shoot? Shall I save you the trouble with this one then? I have never engaged in violence to solve problems and don't forsee that changing. I am sure you can think of situations when It is concievable that violence may indeed be the only way out, for example if my son's life was threatened. However, I really can't see the point in engaging in an excercise where it is totally impossible to predict under what circumstances this would or would not happen.

I most certainly wish I never live to find out just where that line should be drawn.

If you sincerely cannot understand why I have come to this conclusion, there is very little point in our continuing to exchange views. Suffice to say, that there is evidence to show that America is viewed with suspicion by many nations, principally because it is percieved as 'bullying' and disinterested in anything other than its own self agrandisement. Sealing up the borders and lining them with mines is hardly going to improve that image outside of the USA.

You're very funny.

Of course I can't go out and produce statistics just like that. However, I don't think it's rocket science to realise that bullying tacktics and isolationist policies are going to increase hostility to the US by other nations.

Isn't it odd that many of those opinions dropped sharply around 2003?

Hmmm wonder what happened then that might have accounted for that sharp decline in world opinion of the US?

My reply got a bit messed up, this is another interesting link.

Having said this, I am not anti-American. I just think it's absurd to expect that other nations will view any attempt by the US to mine it's borders as a friendly gesture and with its image already tarnished, for wahtever reason, this kind of thinking is not going to make it any new friends.

For what is's worth, I don't think many people genuinely advocate such a ridiculous idea, which is also highly tasteless when you look at all the work that is currently going on in the world to rid areas of mines that have been placed during times of agression.

The wall is also highly unlikely to be persued, if for no other reason than that it's not statistically an idea that is either popular or viewed as potentialyl effective. Most people appear to believe that employer sanctions are the most effective way forward.

Who said anything about violence? I most certainly didn't. You were asked what you would do if people came and played in your backyard, and you said you'd not chase them off, but instead try to find out how you could help them. I then asked how you would respond if you found someone in your bed.

Nothing more, nothing less. I never once mentioned violence nor did I advocate it. I simply asked how you would respond to an uninvited stranger timesharing your bed. Are you seriously saying you wouldn't have a problem with it? Do you lock your front door when you leave the house, or do you leave your borders open for anyone to help him/herself to whatever they need/want?

What are you trying to prove here?

I have already said that I would always go out of my way to help people in need, I can't think of any other reason why they would want to share my bed.

My point being that people need a reason to do the things they do, they don't just get up one day and say, oh, you know what? I think I'll just go and play in someone else's backyard, or, you know what? That looks like a nice bed, I'll sleep there.

For your information, I don't always lock my door. Woe is me eh?
